“Dear PoPville,

I guess it’s a good PSA more than anything…

Last Thursday I was one of several people robbed at the Shell Station at 12th and Otis St NE in Brookland. I unlocked my car to switch credit cards, since the one I was planning on using was not able to be read. Unbeknownst to me, a kid had snuck around my passenger side and opened the door, such that it was not able to be locked again. When I finished pumping gas and went to get in, the kid was inside my car, with my purse in his hands, rifling through other things in the car to take. In addition to my purse, he got my car/house keys, iPhone and my wallet with my ID containing my address. I stupidly chased the kid but he got into a waiting black, Mercedes crossover with MD temp tags and they sped north on 12th St NE. About 10 minutes after the theft, I started getting fraud calls to my Apple watch from the Walmart on Riggs Road. They were able to make about $4000 in purchases between all of my cards in my wallet. “Dear PoPville,

I was crossing Idaho Avenue and heading in the direction of the National Cathedral (Saturday). A handsome cyclist stopped while I was crossing, and he nodded at me politely and complimented my dress. I thanked him and wished him a good night, at which point he wished me a great night too. I thanked him again and (unfortunately!) kept walking. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Are facemasks in supermarkets still required in supermarkets other than Trader Joe’s or not? Harris-Teeter has it on their website that they are not required, but everybody is wearing them in the one in AdMo. There are no signs saying they are required in any supermarket I have been in recently yet I don’t see any customers without facemasks. I haven’t heard any press announcements either.”

“Dear PoPville,

This morning (Friday, 6/11) I asked a stranger if I could take the seat next to him at A Baked Joint. (It was packed and way louder than I remembered – mid-pandemic sensory overload!) I sat down with a biscuit sandwich and a book. He was already reading a book and asked me about mine. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I experienced something extremely inappropriate at the Woodrow Wilson aquatic center this afternoon (Saturday) – after swimming and showering I was getting changed in the ladies locker room when a male cleaner came in! Most of us in there were fully undressed including some minor children. I asked the cleaner to leave but he just waved me off and continued cleaning. We all felt immensely violated and uncomfortable.

I went to speak to the manager who took it very leisurely ans just said that the “female
Cleaner is off today ”

Has this happened to anyone?

I’ve send an email to DPR but this just seems like an extremely big deal, borderline harassment.
Any suggestions what can be done to bring more attention to something like this?”

“Dear PoPville,

I had an experience at the Intown U-Haul location that I think is relevant to other DMV residents. Earlier today (Sunday), I picked up a small van at 5:30pm for a 7:30pm drop-off and parked my car in one of the customer parking spaces at the entrance to the pick-up / drop-off depot. I arrived at 7:15pm to drop-off the U-Haul and pick up my car only to find my car blocked in by another U-Haul. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

He was tall & wearing a baseball cap & was sitting at a picnic table on the far side of Elle streaterie (sp?) with three other pals. Sometime around 9 am (Thursday)? I was standing near the order pick-up window in a long black dress & holding an iced Americano. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I am looking for recommendations for movers and storage units in DC. I live in NW DC. Can anyone recommend movers who already have storage units they can move furniture into?

“Dear PoPville,

I was hoping to ask the community if they had recommendations for beginner adult Golf Lessons around the DC area. Open to individual lessons mainly but also curious about group lessons for adults.”
