UPDATE from BrineOysterDC:

“Here’s what’s up (we share the same owners as Russia House!):
Most RH staff relocated during the pandemic, so they’ve been restaffing up and almost there! RH completed an entire remodel including a new bar, kitchen, bathrooms, & decor, & shooting to open early January!

“Dear PoPville,

Do you know what’s the deal with Russia House? They say they are still closed because of the pandemic. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I think I had a missed connection Friday night between 13th and 14th near Jenni’s. She was walking LuLu and was super nice. Wish I’d found out her name as well!”

Ed. Note: If this is you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about past missed connections, many have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made. Yesterday’s MC at Ivy and Coney was made, I think responses were forwarded.

“Dear PoPville,

As I look to my end-of-year giving, what local nonprofits do folks love? I’ve given to WABA and Horton’s Kids, and am always looking for other wonderful people and work to support, especially those with smaller budgets where my money can make more of a difference.”

“Dear PoPville,

Not sure if anyone else has written in regarding this but figured it’s my duty as a dog owner.

Two and a half months ago my dog and I started going to the revamped Shaw dog park. We were stoked since it’s much bigger than most dog parks in the area and it’s convenient location. Then trouble began. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m flying for the first time in two years next week, to visit family in Canada for Christmas. I need a PCR within 24 hours of departure. A dual citizen acquaintance recommended Same Day in Georgetown, but it’s $$$. I have an appointment Thursday at a CVS in SW, because apparently they do them for free, and I needed to test before a gathering that night, and thought it would be a good trial run. Nobody I know has heard about or done the CVS option. There’s got to be others, (more…)

“Here’s the usual flight patterns for DCA. While most are north and south, you’ll see the flights going over the Anacostia.” via Melpomene Wetzlar

Johnny asks: “has anyone else living in SW also experienced an increase in noise coming from planes departing DCA lately the past few months?”

Melpomene Wetzlar replies: “There are more flights now since the COVID shutdown. Almost back to normal. The flight paths have not changed. Flights going to Boston,Newark,JFK, Providence, etc fly over the Anacostia. Flying over water plus cold weather & clouds will cause louder noises.”

Others are saying: (more…)

Thanks to Dan for sending on Saturday: “I was outside of my hotel earlier today and along comes this guy dressed like a chef, dragging a net full of baguettes down the street. Curious if anyone else saw this? Just when I think I’ve seen everything!”

“Dear PoPville,

made eye contact with guy walking into shehan mansion (16th and R), he lingered on the stoop for a package. Girl in Grateful Dead sweatshirt, thinks there might be something!”

“Dear PoPville,

Dc swept up the leaves in piles but didn’t come get them! Happened this morning in Fort Davis, SE. I think a hot car may have been the cause. [Ed. Note: DC Fire and EMS has warned about hot cars and Councilmember Allen warned of arson in Hill East.] I saw it smoking then it quickly burst into fire. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

This is the biggest long shot ever. A woman stood up for me in the bar at Joe’s against two people, a male and younger female who were bullying me. She told them “you all could lose your jobs for the way you are speaking to her” and I really appreciated it after a night of poor treatment. I’d like to connect with this lady (blonde woman) for standing up for me when she could tell I needed backup. (more…)
