Important updated about the 11am Dupont Circle snowball fight – it’s been moved to Meridian Hill Park in Columbia Heights. Update from the Washington DC Snowball Fight Association:
“Listen up, troops! The NPS (National Park Service, for recent transplants) stroke again and meddled with our plans. They plowed the pristine snow blanket of Dupont Circle Park. To remedy this unfortunate situation, we are moving the main event to Meridian Hill Park.”
Ed. Note: It’s still scheduled for 11am. Meridian Hill Park is located between 15th and 16th Streets and Euclid and W St, NW. If you go send some photos to [email protected] or tweet to @PoPville or upload to the PoPville flickr pool – thanks and have fun!

From WMATA:
“Due to forecast weather and expected road conditions, Metro is advising riders of the following service changes for Tuesday, February 17:
*** Metrobus: No late-night bus service; buses on severe snow service plan on Tuesday AM ***
All late-night bus service will be cancelled tonight. The last buses of the night will meet the last Metrorail trains at outlying stations; however, after 1 a.m., no bus service will operate until approximately 5 a.m.
Based on the curent forecast, Metro expects to begin Tuesday on a SEVERE SNOW PLAN, if conditions allow. Under the severe snow plan, buses operate on major roadways only. Visit wmata.com for details. Service may be further reduced if it is unsafe to operate.
*** Metrorail: Expect trains on Saturday schedule on Tuesday ***
Metrorail will make every effort to continue operating train service, both above and below ground. However, due to expected weather conditions and lighter-than-normal ridership, all Metrorail service will operate on a Saturday schedule on Tuesday, February 17. This allows additional time between trains for snow-clearing operations and also protects railcars from severe weather conditions, thereby allowing for more reliable service after the storm passes when more people are riding.
*** MetroAccess: Service suspended until further notice ***
All MetroAccess service (paratransit service for customers with disabilities) is suspended until further notice. Riders are encouraged to sign up for MetroAlerts to be notified when service is restored.”

Please get your ticket at the kiosk and park on P2 level. Keep the ticket in your car. Go to the parking office and give the staff your tag number and make, model, and color of your car.
When you are ready to leave the garage, return to the parking office, pay the $1 and leave as usual.”
From the Mayor’s Office:
“With a heavy snowfall predicted, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced today that a snow emergency will go into effect at 7 am on Tuesday, February 17. By declaring a snow emergency, the District Snow Team (Department of Public Works and Department of Transportation) will be able to clear snow emergency routes curb to curb. To learn where a vehicle has been towed, call the Towed Vehicle Locator office at 202.541.6083 or go to http://dpw.dc.gov/service/locate-towed-vehicle.
The snow emergency will remain in effect until an announcement is made that it has been lifted. Motorists are asked to tune into television and radio broadcast stations or go to www.snow.dc.gov for a notice that the snow emergency has been lifted.
Vehicles ticketed for a snow emergency violation and towed by DPW will be taken to the DPW Impound Lot at 5001 Shepherd Parkway, SW 20032. The lot is open weekdays from 8 am to 6 pm, the telephone number is 202.645.5500. The lot is closed weekends, holidays and when DC government is closed. Vehicles also may be towed by private towing companies, and vehicle owners can learn where their vehicle has been towed by calling the Towed Vehicle Locator office at 202.541.6083. To have an impounded vehicle released, these fees must be paid before the vehicle will be released:
• $250 ticket for the snow emergency violation.
• $100 tow fee.
• $20 per day storage fee.
Additional fees also may be required to be paid, e.g., fees for tickets older than 60 days that have not been entered into the adjudication system.
These fees may be paid at the impound lot by bank debit card, credit card (Mastercard, Visa and Discover) or online through the Department of Motor Vehicles Website — http://dmv.dc.gov/.”

Thanks to a reader for passing on from the DC Snowball Fight Association:
“At laaast, the DC area is about to get in on some of that significant snow that New England seemingly has been keeping all to itself so far this winter… And yes, for us, that can only mean two words.
SNOWBALL FIGHT !
For the first time since last March, we urge the snowballers of the District to reconvene for a benevolent battle in the beloved birthplace of our movement, Dupont Circle Park, at 11am on Tuesday. An hour or two beforehand, we’ll post an update here on the status of the Park, just so that we know whether conditions are ripe. And we hope you can join us afterward for lunch and drink specials at James Hoban’s Irish Restaurant & Bar, which is reserving a room and offering a prize for the best (read: craziest?) dressed snowballer! (more…)
