From DDOT:

“Hot weather began early this year and that means the DC Department of Public Works trash and recycling crews will begin their collections an hour earlier, at 6 am, when temperatures are predicted to be 90° or more Tuesday, May 26-Saturday, May 30. DPW will observe Memorial Day, Monday, May 25; therefore, collections will “slide” to the next day.

Residents may put their trash and recyclables out for pick-up starting at 6:30 pm the day before their collections. Trash and recycling containers should be removed from public space by 8 pm on the collection day or a sanitation citation may be issued.

Throughout the summer, when the temperature is predicted to be 90˚ or higher or the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments announces unhealthy air quality (Code Orange or Code Red days), DPW collection crews will begin their work at 6 am to avoid health or environmental issues.”

Thanks to all the great photographers who emailed, tweeted and uploaded to the PoPville flickr pool such amazing shot. I’m in awe. This is just a sampling.

1st and t st nw David f. And jaddams

Props to David F and jaddams who sculpted this, er uh, sculpture in Bloomingdale. It looks huge and must’ve taken quite an effort to build – so I’m gonna call it a bird and say well done! Although, maybe it’s a garden gnome?
