I wonder if they are coming into the space that was once touted as the future home of Ellwood Thompson’s before they backed out? If so, it’ll be right next to the coming soon Petco on Irving Street.

Einstein Bagels has started construction in the long vacant Vespa showroom at 2233 Wisconsin Ave, NW. And they’re started hiring too.

And coming right next door to the future Einstein Bagels is an Empower Yoga studio.

On July 3rd we learned Sushi Ko had been closed in Glover Park. At that time we did not know if it was temporary or permanent. Signs posted on their door still indicate they hope to reopen:

I walked by on Saturday and the space was still closed. A phone call to their Chevy Chase location revealed they are still hoping to re-open the Glover Park spot. But a reader hears they will close permanently. Stay tuned.

“Dear PoPville,
There is an alcohol permit request (dated Aug 2) in the window in the same building as the under construction Alba Osteria. This new place is going to be called Eye Street Cellars. I did a google search, but nada. It’s located on Eye St. just past 4 1/2 St (alley) in NW. Permit says Class A retail with Tasting permit. Figure it won’t be some cheap liquor store based on the location, but who knows?”

“Dear PoPville,
Pharmacare Pharmacy on Florida and Georgia Ave. NW served a huge low-income contingency in DC. Social service agencies, particularly those serving HIV/AIDS and mental health clients have been left to scramble to find alternative pharmaceutical providers that deliver and work with clients even if they don’t have insurance. Big hit for an already struggling population.
There’s an article in the Baltimore Sun about the arrests and charges.”

In April a reader shared some scuttlebutt that a cigar store could be coming to 3622 Georgia Ave, NW next to Lion’s. Haven’t heard anything else on that front but on Sunday I did notice a permit posted for retail sales. But what could be more interesting is the agent name – Tony Shallal. Tony has confirmed via email that he is the brother of Andy Shallal owner of Busboys and Poets. Regarding plans for the space, he writes:
“We are still in the talking stage with several people, retailers, restaurants and nonprofits. The space will have 3600 sq/ft with an upper level outdoor deck, and exposed brick walls. It should be a cool space for a cool tenant.”

Whatever happens, it is nice to see the rundown space finally get fixed up.

Thanks to a reader for sending word about Sneakertropolis (what an awesome name!) coming to Kennedy Street between 5th and 7th Street, NW.

Earlier in the week a reader asked what’s happening with CCs liquor store on 14th and Monroe in Columbia Heights? Thanks to @Tuck1220 who writes:
“CC’s liquor is back. Mr. Kim was sick, but said he is doing OK now.”
