We’ve been paying modest attention to the new Flagship REI coming to NoMa. Well it almost here so I thought it was time to pay proper attention. Let’s just get it out of the way – the space is SICK. Absolutely sick. Dope. Dope sky. Mint. Fresh. And definitely funky fresh. While I took a million pictures this is a good example of a place you really got to see in person to fully appreciate the transformation. Let’s not forget what the space looked like before (after its heyday):

And now it is simply a jaw dropper. I took a tour of the 50,000+ square foot space and here’s a taste:

Junction Vintage’s website and facebook are still active but I put a call in to the store during regular hours on Sunday and it went unanswered to voicemail.

Update: Junction Village will be closing on U Street at the end of January and moving to a new location. “I’ll still be open for inauguration needs.” Updates when the new location is announced.

From an email:

Willow, a clothing + gift shop, located at 834 Upshur Street NW in Petworth, is setting up shop in Columbia Heights for the holiday season! Located at 3224 11th Street NW next door to Bad Saint, the shop will stock a little bit of everything from clothing and housewares to gifts for all ages produced by local makers. DC and Columbia Heights themed products designed by Willow staff as well as new clothing lines will fill the shelves and racks!

The shop will also feature a special selection of titles from Upshur Street Books.

“I am very excited to be bringing a little bit of Upshur Street down to Columbia Heights and 11th Street. Be on the look out for fun window displays and the same friendly atmosphere that we have at the Upshur street location,” says owner Julie Wineinger.

The shop will open Saturday, October 15th and be open through December.”

Thanks to all who emailed and tweeted us. The owner of Stella’s tells me they are shooting for an October 29th grand opening and continue to operate the food truck.

“We use high quality ingredients and offer unique twists on the nostalgic treat. After spending many years in the culinary and high end catering world, I’ve dedicated Stella*s PopKern to producing the most delicious and creative popcorn around (truly!). Our ever evolving menu ranges from traditional mainstays such as Clarified Butter with Brazilian Sea Salt to exotic blends like Spicy Cardamom Sprinkled with Ginger Sea Salt.”

Props to Jenna Golden for digging up this help wanted post from parent company J.Crew:

“Store Director, Madewell, 14th Street NW *NEW STORE*”

Their website says:

“What is Madewell? For one thing, we’re jeans makers. But we also focus on all the things you wear with denim: timeless leather jackets, great boots, slouchy tees and have—forever totes.”

Timothy Paul closed back in August. Update: a very reliable source indicates that the location for this Madewell on 14th will actually be in the former Universal Gear space closer to U Street!! Stay tuned for confirmation/exact address on 14th.

A Madewell at this location should appease those who were disappointed about the J. Crew “men’s products only” store coming nearby to 14th and Corcoran Street, NW (which is also hiring.)
