Khan’s Bar and Grill is located at 1125 H St, NE. Ever since I posted a Food Friday (2nd pic) I’ve been curious what folks think. While they’ve only been open a short time – I’m super curious about this “Mongolian Asian Fusion”. Their Facebook page says:

“Interactive Mongolian grill experience. Great lunchtime destination and meeting place, with a very wide variety of Asian delights. In addition a great place to watch almost any game on one of our 10 L.E.D. 1080P HDTV’s, or our super huge 110″ HD Projector and amazing sound!”

Anyone check them out yet? What was the interactive Mongolian grill experience like?

Sounds like this could also be a good place to watch the NFL draft tonight.

Thanks to a reader for sending word and photos. Back in May ’10 we learned that Sake Club had closed at 2635 Connecticut Ave, NW. There is a sign announcing a hearing for a Noodles & Company to occupy the space. You can see their menu here.

The reader writes succinctly, “that totally sucks”, what do you guys think – any fans of Noodles & Company?

And right next door at 2633 Connecticut Ave, NW the reader writes:

“Cafe International is closed. windows are covered in newspaper. didn’t love the place, but a nice alternative when open city is packed for a quick coffee.”

I’ll be sure to update when we find out who is moving into that space.

Thanks to a reader for sending a heads up (and photos) of Bookhill Bistro which just opened up at 1639 Wisconsin Ave NW. It’s Web site says:

“Bookhill Bistro is a full service restaurant featuring globally influenced cusine. We have two levels of dining as well as a private room for parties and a back patio.”

You can see their menus here.

December ’10

Big news just released on the Cleveland Park Listserv:

“ANC3C has received notice from the Board of Zoning Adjustment that Chipotle Mexican Grill has filed for a Special Exception to occupy the former “Cereal Bowl” space at 3420 Connecticut Avenue. Chipotle Mexican Grill is classified as a “fast food restaurant” and is only permitted in a C-2-A zone, which is the zoning for this address, by Special Exception.

ANC3C would appreciate hearing the community’s thoughts on this application. Both positive and negative comments are welcome.”

Cereal Bowl closed back in Dec. and Starbucks closed back in Apr. ’09.

Do you think Chipotle will be a good fit for this space?

April ’09

Back in Dec. ’10 I was talking about how much I loved this building. I’m so psyched to hear of these new plans. And it sounds like the new owners are happy to talk with anyone who has concerns.

The description of the new place sounds very promising.  A recent liquor license application says:

“Casual and relaxed bistro restaurant serving an extensive Saturday & Sunday brunch with and total occupancy load of 259. Request a Sidewalk Café with 56 seats and Summer Garden with 14 seats. In addition, requesting an Entertainment Endorsement featuring recorded music and DJ.”

Sound good?

Back on Apr. 4th I shared some very sweet scuttlebutt that Luke’s Lobster Shack was coming to 622 E St, NW in Penn Quarter. So it turns out I was wrong by one storefront. They are coming to 624 E St, NW according to Washingtonian:

Last night, New York-based Luke’s Lobster co-owners Ben Conniff and Luke Holden signed a lease and secured permits for a 700-square-foot space at 624 E Street, Northwest, in DC’s Penn Quarter. They hope to open by the end of May.

The menu will be a carbon copy of the one at the three locations in New York City, which in addition to a lobster roll, includes New England clam chowder and lobster bisque from the Maine-based company Hurricane’s Soups, Maine Root soda, and Empress crab claws.

Awesome!!!

“Dear PoP,

I’m in a bit of a bind and figured PoP readers may have some suggestions. I had a rehearsal dinner scheduled for next Friday at one the Georgetown Waterfront restaurants. Needless to say, since it was inundated with about 4-5 feet of water Monday, we are in desperate need of an alternative location.

I’ve found some options, but they all fall outside our desired geographical area (Dupont, U st, Woodley Park). Any suggestions for a place that can put together a diner for 60 on short notice?”

Hmm what about Cassa Nonna located at 1250 Connecticut Ave, NW? Where would you guys recommend?

And for the Friday Question of the Day – where are the best restaurants in DC that can take care of a big group?

And on a side note: I’ve been meaning to share some good news of my own. So a month from today I’m getting married! I am beyond happy and promise to share a photo from the wedding (Pablo.Raw and Kay Campbell will be taking some shots). I know I don’t talk about personal things too much but I’m gonna be out of the loop a bit for a week at the end of May and for a week in the beginning of Sept. My fiancee is the greatest and doesn’t mind my insane blogging hours but I promised that I’ll be completely offline for our wedding and honeymoon. I hope to have the LoP, Eric Nuzum, fill in a bit while I’m gone. Thanks in advance for understanding!

La Granja de Oro is located at 1832 Columbia Rd NW. Their Web site says:

“In this restaurant, you will find the most extensive and varied selection of Peruvian food, which encompasses a wide variety of meat, fish, seafood and grilled chicken, along with a vast salad bar that is included with meals, and other delights. A chief requirement of a restaurant’s success is good food at the hands of those who prepare it; La Granja de Oro counts on the vast expertise of five master chefs of Peruvian cuisine.”

You can see their menus here. Any must order items?

This section of Florida Ave, NW is booming. This new spot will be located between the recently opened Zee’s Restaurant and the “soon to be” Shaw’s Tavern. Bistro Bohem will be located at 1840 6th St, NW and the liquor license application says:

“New Restaurant serving European Bistro full range of full meals and light fare. Background music will be provided, no live entertainment. With a Sidewalk Café. Seating – 50, Total Occupancy Load – 65, Sidewalk Café – 24.”

Nice! Great to see so many vacant storefronts start to get filled in here. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

“Dear PoP,

El Salvadoreño on 14th and Parkwood Pl, NW. Is it closed? Please? Lights have been off and there hasn’t been any traffic there in a couple weeks. Police in the neighborhood said “shady” things would go on there in there so maybe they finally cracked down? Would love to see Panam expand or that great space get turned into something nicer.”

I’ve actually heard some rumors that the Panam International Supermarket was thinking about expanding but I had heard they were going to expand up. Does anyone shop at Panam?

Anyone else happen to notice if El Salvadoreño has closed?

I’ll be sure to update as details emerge.
