Ollie’s Trolley is located at 425 12th St, NW (12th and E St, NW.) You can see their menu here and their website says:

The Ollieburger. 5oz & 8oz of 100% Fresh All Natural Black Angus Beef grilled with their special herbs and spices — which we cook to order (Rare to Well-done). You can taste the spices enjoyably, but can’t readily identify them — served with fresh/crisp lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and secret sauce on a sesame bun. The ingredients are all fresh.

Our famous Ollie’s seasoned fries are tossed in actual herbs and spices. They are known as the best fries in town, and worthy of their “famous” title.

Crab cakes and fish sandwiches are never FROZEN and prepared fresh daily. Crab cakes are made out of ALL JUMBO LUMP Crabmeat with no fillings.

Steak-N-Cheese is one of the most popular sandwiches. Many customers believe our Steak-n-cheese is better than the one in Philly.

Any fans?

Back in Sept. ’11 I noticed some coming soon signs at Fuel’s Chinatown location at 6th and F St, NW. Looks like there is even more progress at their other location in the former Burger King at 1606 K St, NW. They’ve also applied for a liquor license at that location:

“A fast casual restaurant serving pizza, wings, salads and similar fare with a seating capacity for 130 people and total occupancy of 180.”

You can see their menu here. And now we have an idea of the decorating style…

Sad news for Shaw this weekend. Just a couple of weeks ago we judged Taqueria Mexicana to very positive reviews. Taqueria Mexicana was located in the former Cafe Eagle and former Vegetate space at 1414 9th St, NW. I happened to run into the owner who was on a delivery and he told me that he had to close because the rent was simply too high. He’s gonna look for a new location but he is not 100% sure he will reopen. He may continue as a caterer and in the short term will provide catering on weekends.

DCNoMa shares the good word (and has a preview of the menu) about the restaurant that’s going to take over Gillian Clark’s aborted Kitchen on K Street in NoMa. The Loree Grand (250 K Street, NE) announced on Facebook:

“We’re excited to announce the opening of the new restaurant Zuppa Fresca at The Loree Grand on February 1, 2012! Chef Alfrio Celia will make his Washington debut with sensational Italian fare. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch, and brunch, with dinner and drink service to come! Make sure to grab a menu from the Concierge!”

Thanks to a reader for sending the photo and word that:

“Not sure it this means actual progress, but they are replacing the roof at 14th and V.”

Back in Sept. ’10 we had learned that a new Tex Mex restaurant, La Fonda, had applied for a liquor license at the old AM PM carryout at 14th and V St, NW. La Fonda was going to be a:

“New Mexican restaurant offering “Tex-Mex” styled cuisine with live entertainment featuring a single musician and karaoke. Seating capacity is 220. Total occupancy load is 332. Sidewalk Café with seating for 48.”

Sadly, it appeared the deal fell through as there was little sign of progress on the building. Great to see work starting. It’ll be interesting to see if this means La Fonda is back on board or if someone else will be coming into the space. Stay tuned.

Thanks to a reader for sending the tip. I called Mixt Greens Wed. afternoon and they confirmed that Wed. was the “last day of operations” for both remaining DC locations (the F St, NW location closed in Feb. ’11 and is now a Roti.) The two remaining locations were in Dupont at 1200 19th Street NW and by Farragut North at 1700 K Street, NW. Those are two prime locations so we’ll def. keep an eye on them to see who moves in.

Will anyone miss Mixt Greens?

“Dear PoPville,

Ken’s Carryout now offers Bulgogi. Not traditional Bulgogi, but good price, ingredients seem fresh and the rice was perfectly cooked.”

Back in Aug. ’11 we learned that Ken’s Carryout was becoming an Arthur Treacher’s at 400 Florida Ave, NW. Anyone try the Bulgogi?
