725 T St, NW
A couple of weeks ago we learned that All Souls neighborhood bar had finally been granted its liquor license in Shaw. I took a quick look of the space at 725 T St, NW (it’s actually 2 storefronts that will be combined) so I could grab some “before” photos. Speaking with owner, David Batista, if all goes well they plan on opening on Halloween. More info as construction progresses.

farm fresh, all house-made, served every night by candlelightJohn, our new new chef, has been working tirelessly preparing a new menu with multiple courses and options available every night, and where everything is made in-house (all but the cheese plate!) and with produce from local farms He has been baking bread, preparing creme fraiche and fruit coulis for his house-made desserts, preparing local-farm vegetables, butchering poultry, cleaning fish, stuffing sausage, curing lemons, and washing lots of dishes.
Has anyone stopped by for dinner yet? Big Bear is located at the corner of 1st and R St, NW in Bloomingdale.

Dear PoPville,
Just swang by radius because they were supposed to open back up today.
Blinds drawn, doors locked at 5:15, sign is gone. Called the number on the website and it’s been disconnected. Not looking good for the $5 pint and slice deals. No confirmation though.
In addition to the phone number being disconnected, emails to the owners remain unanswered as well. Not looking good at all…
Pret a Manger continues its DC expansion with another new spot coming to 14th and H St, NW.

624 E St, NW
City Paper’s Jessica Sidman spots the empty storefront at 624 E St, NW in Penn Quarter. We judged meatballs back in Dec. 2011. They did a nice build-out on the space so it’ll be interesting to see who takes it over.
1213 U St, NW
First a mural and now some new signage at Ben’s Next Door located at 1213 U St, NW. What do you think of the new signage?

Recess Lounge of 727 15th St NW D.C. announces the opening of their new Recess Tapas Lounge. The lounge will open on Friday, July 6th (updated from original July 4th opening date).
Recess first opened as a late-night lounge in 2009 and now owners Brandon Howard and Fisayo Esconsay have partnered Chef Will Vivas to add a Tapas Lounge. Chef Vivas created a full tapas menu based on his Venezuelan roots. Guests can expect menu items like tapas Lamb con Romero, Hongos Conservados (Aged Roasted Mushrooms), and Rolled Spongecake with Nutella.
The restaurant and lounge will feature 49 seats in the dining area and 10 bar stools for casual eating. Hours for the Tapas Lounge are Tuesday through Saturday 4:30-10pm, with Happy Hour specials from 4:30-6:30. Normal lounge late hours remain Tuesday 10pm to 2am and Friday- Saturday 10pm to 3am.

In early May The Pinch opened up in the former El Salvadorena space located at at the corner of Parkwood and 14th St, NW. They are now serving brunch Saturday and Sunday from 11am-3pm.
