2404 Wisconsin Avenue, NW

From an email:

Slate Wine Bar + Bistro is excited to announce that we are joining the Glover Park community later this summer! We will be located at 2404 Wisconsin Avenue, formerly home to Kitchen 2404. Slate will be a neighborhood restaurant that is also a destination for wine lovers of all levels of knowledge and experience. Daily specials, pairing advice, and flights will be supplemented with a wide-range of educational and entertaining wine events, including winemaker dinners, tasting seminars, wine clubs, escorted trips to wine regions, and more. The Bistro menu will offer an array of snacks including cheese and charcuterie, along with heartier fare such as soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees and desserts. The menu will change seasonally and will be supplemented by daily and weekly specials from the freshest local ingredients with the goal of complementing the wines. For non-wine lovers, we will have a great selection of craft beers and cocktails. Slate is a project by Wine Investment Group, LLC. Owner and Wine Director, Elizabeth Banker, and General Manager, Mark Krieger, look forward to welcoming you when we are ready to open our doors.

Thanks to all who sent photos of the Pleasant Pops Farmhouse Market and Cafe signage at the former Rita’s space in Adams Morgan. Back in March we learned:

“What is the Farmhouse Market & Cafe?

Inspired by DC area farmers’ markets, our vision is to create a year-round community market and gathering place in the heart of Northwest DC. We’ll feature a selection of seasonal local produce, dairy, farm goods, sandwiches, locally roasted coffees, and our original pop creations.”

Looks like their kickstarter campaign raised $26,366. Well done.

I’m super psyched for this one to get here!

2120 P St, NW

Back in April I shared some scuttlebutt that a tex-mex restaurant was coming to the former Vento space at 2120 P St, NW from the owners of Scion, located next door. Thanks to a reader for sending a tweet from @ScionRestaurant:

“No better time than today, our 3rd birthday, to announce that we will be opening Crios Modern Mexican very soon in Dupont Circle!”

Looks like they’ll be having a sneek peek at Scion on Wed. July 18:

Dear PoPville,

I work near the 1990 M street NW building where the new restaurant from the Fast Gourmet people is set to open. I haven’t seen much development going on as there is paper over the windows and the Chinese restaurant sign is still up in front, but I did notice there’s a liquor license request now posted on the windows. Do you have any information on the name of the place and when it is set to open? Looks like the liquor application request is for August 2012 with a hearing in September.

Applying for a liquor license is a good next step. As you noted the hearing date is set for September 4, 2012. The application also lists the name of the restaurant as TakeEatEasy and lists some details:

“New casual restaurant serving gourmet sandwiches and salads. Occupancy Load is 110 and number of seats is 65.”

Let’s hope for a September opening and possibly even sooner if they are able and decide to open before they get their liquor license.

1418 U Street, NW

First Utopia then DC Noodles and now Coppi’s.

Dear PoPville,

Hey, sad news, coppi’s is the next and last, I guess, to go on that block (hopefully only temporarily). I went by there last night for dinner and the note was posted on the door. I talked with Carlos and he says they’ll be re-opening in about a year… I sure hope so! Last day is July 14 :(

Union Station

Yesterday I got a tour of the two new Jamba Juices that are now open in Union Station and Dupont Circle. Full Disclosure: I got tons of free smoothies.

The DC area Jamba Juice franchises are owned by tennis great Venus Williams.

The first two in DC are just the begining. I was told that we can expect two more coming relatively soon – likely in Chinatown and/or Georgetown. Also they have small kiosks that they are hoping to place in government buildings soon as well. Oh yeah – they also may launch a street cart soon as well. Stay tuned.
