2317 Wisconsin Ave, NW in June 2012

Back in June we learned a bit about Sprig & Sprout coming to 2317 Wisconsin Ave, NW in Glover Park. The owner sends a quick update saying that:

“We probably won’t open doors till early to mid October.”

But their website has been updated and you can check out their awesome looking menu here. Looking forward to the October opening!

600 14th Street, NW

Almost exactly a year ago Galileo III closed at at 600 14th St, NW. A new restaurant called Riscatto will be moving into the space by 14th and F Street. A recent liquor license posted says:

“New restaurant serving Mexican and Latin foods for lunch, brunch, and dinner. Background music will be provided. Entertainment will be in the form of a DJ. Seating capacity is 130. Total occupancy load is 190.”

1110 H Street, NE

We’ve been waiting a long time for someone to open up at 1110 H St, NE in the awesome Hubert Newsom Real Estate building. It was a pleasant surprise to see the new Newsom restaurant and bar open during the H Street Festival. @HStreetDC_ says to stay tuned for an early October opening. Anyone stop by and taste the food during the festival?

The space looks great:

2nd floor bar

901 Monroe St, NE

Dear PoPville,

Did you know that Col Brooks’ Tavern is closing it’s doors after 32 years on Friday (tonight)? We were there this week and while they are running out of beers, it’s been part of the neighborhood where everyone knows your name. Soon, it will be a hole in the ground. Alas, but that’s the circle of (development) iife.

The site is slated to become the 901 Monroe Street project:

“RETAIL: 13,000 square feet. Five retailers including a restaurant
APARTMENTS: 212 rental units
PARKING: 150 parking spaces
BIKE SPACES: 66 Bike spaces
ZIPCAR: 2 Zipcar spaces”

A buddy of mine who went to the law school at Catholic University was a big fan and I’d meet for drinks there from time to time but sadly, as a non regular, my deepest memory is the horrible triple murder that occurred in 2003. So sad.

Wishing all those who were apart of Colonel Brooks Tavern the best of luck in the future. I’ve heard whispers that they could reopen in the new space but I’ve never seen that confirmed. Any fans of Colonel Brooks Tavern?

You can find more info about the coming development here.

3313 11th St, NW (pre-signage)

From El Chucho‘s Facebook page:

“BRUNCH DEBUTS THIS WEEKEND! Saturday and Sunday 11:30-2:30. Features a breakfast burrito; green eggs & ham; chilaquiles; huevos rancheros; torta french toast. OJ squeezed to order from our badass juicer…All $4: mimosas, bloodies, micheladas and house margs (frozen, too). Join the party!”

4128 Georgia Ave, NW

Dear PoPville,

I have to say my husband & I are pleasantly surprised with the latest addition to Petworth. Epiphany. He went a week ago for lunch while working on the house and he is from NC and spent a fair amount of time in Texas. In his opinion, the brisket was solid. Now, I can tell you he has extremely high standards. Tonight, we stopped in for dinner. Cece was at the register and was sweet as can be. The Chef, Christian was very proud to chat with us after eating. My husband repeated with the brisket and I got the pulled pork. Two happy diners :) The collards were sweet (not tangy or spicey) but good and the cole slaw was really good. We will return and love this new affordable neighborhood place.

528 8th Street, SE

In early Aug. we learned that the former Jordan’s 8 space on Barracks Row would become a new Serbian restaurant from the owner of Masa 14. The Eastern Market Metro Community Association shares more info:

“The restaurant will serve Balkan cuisine, focusing on dishes from the owner’s native Serbia. The name “Ambar” refers to the bin where corn is stored after harvest in Serbia, and according to Iricanin, is part of every Serbian household.”

Check out a rendering of the space here.

They’ve also recently applied for a liquor license that says:

“New Restaurant, offering full dinner, Balkan-style cuisine. Entertainment Endorsement to include live acoustic music as well as DJs on some weekend nights. No designated dance floor.

Summer Garden with 40 seats and Sidewalk Café with 12 seats. Total occupancy load is 140 with 140 seats inside.

Stay tuned for a possible November opening.
