“Dear PoPville,
There have been 3 occasions now where myself, my partner, and friend have had instances along 11th ST NW between Florida and Fairmont, where muggings have been happening.
My partner had an instance where a black car with tinted windows slowly pulled up, two individuals in the front, two in the back (who came out), assaulted and robbed him and two others.

A reader reports at 9:20am: “20+ cop cars, Trellis House block just north of the Florida Ave Whole Foods”
Update from a reader:
“He got into my apartment (I wasn’t there) and jumped off my balcony to the unit below. The cops broke door my door trying to get in. Didn’t so much as leave a note or business card. Had to cobble together a story from my neighbors and the leasing agent. He’s in custody now.”
Update from MPD:
“The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the public’s assistance in locating a suspect that is wanted for an escape offense.
Kenneth Phillips, pictured below, is described as a 22-year-old black male, 6’0” in height, weighing approximately 210 pounds with a light brown complexion.
Phillips was previously arrested on November 16, 2021, and held in DC Jail on Carjacking and Burglary charges. On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, DC Department of Corrections (DOC) staff transported Phillips to Howard University Hospital for medical treatment. At approximately 0830 hours, Phillips was able to escape from DOC staff and fled the hospital on foot. He is currently wanted pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. Last night Alan Henney reported:
“WOMAN BEATEN IN HEAD WITH BAT inside the &pizza at 13th St and U St NW DC. She was taken to a trauma center after being struck in the head and was briefly unconscious.”
I inquired with MPD and learned an arrest was made. Here’s more info from the police report:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second and Third District announce an arrest has been made in reference to Burglary Two and Robbery Offenses in the Second and Third District.
- Burglary Two: On Thursday, February 23, 2023, at approximately 2:56 am, in the 2000 block of 18th Street, Northwest, the suspect forcibly entered an establishment. The suspect ransacked the establishment then fled the scene. CCN: 23-029-289
On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 53-year-old Ronald Goins Jr, of Northwest, DC, was arrested and charged with Burglary Two.

From the DC Public Library last night:
“This evening at the Petworth Library there was a targeted attack involving two individuals in which one lost their life. In consideration of DC Public Library staff who were present during this traumatic event, the Petworth Library will remain closed through Sunday, March 5 and will reopen Monday, March 6. Thank you for your understanding.”
Update from MPD:
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in reference a homicide that occurred on Thursday, March 2, 2023, in the 4200 block of Kansas Avenue, Northwest.
At approximately 7:00 pm, Fourth District officers responded to the listed location for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim suffering from stab wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The decedent has been identified as 45-year-old Ali Zarrincalaki of no fixed address. (more…)
