“Dear PoPville,
A little after 9 am, near the intersection of 17th and E Street NE, a woman was attacked by another woman holding a steel bar (like rebar or a crowbar). The woman who was attacked was saved by a bystander — a person who lives in the area — and was able to jump into someone’s car, who then apparently drove her to safety.
The woman who attacked her was seen wandering the area after that. (more…)

My husband, our teenage son, and I live on Capitol Hill. On Saturday night, July 22, our 16-year-old was confronted by a gunman, shot at multiple times, and forced to hide under a blanket in the woods for an hour with strangers on Kingman Island.
He’d gone for an evening jog and came upon an armed man standing over someone in a field. The gunman pointed his gun at him and shouted. (more…)

“Metro has begun installing new higher, stronger faregates at Fort Totten Station as part of a systemwide rollout. The design improves upon the original prototype door following months of testing and modifications. The new doors are now 55-inches tall, twice as strong, and more resilient.
The installation at Fort Totten is expected to be completed overnight, followed by Pentagon City. The faregate modifications will be installed in phases with plans to retrofit faregates throughout the system over the next year. The first 10 stations are expected to be completed by early fall. There was quite the scene tonight (Sunday) in Capitol Hill neighborhood, and an off-duty police officer was the instigator.
A lady was crossing East Capitol right across the street from the west side of Lincoln Park next to Wine and Butter Cafe. She started walking when the street sign said Don’t Walk and a guy pulled up in a Tesla dual-motor Model Y or Model S, stopped right in front of her, laid on his horn, and started screaming obscenities at her. He did not remove his hand from the horn and honked for the entire altercation which was probably about 4-5 minutes. (more…)
