From Mintwood Place in Adams Morgan.

Update from OP:

We found our time machine with all the baby pictures…in our house on the 4th floor, under a table, where the Verizon guy had moved it when he was here in the summer. We felt lucky it was that hidden, as the thief only took Macs, leaving available PC laptops behind.

The story is here.

(I feel foolish believing it was stolen and then finding it, but I’m more thankful than embarrassed., but in a very thankful way.)”

“Dear PoPville,

While my family was out on vacation (12/19-12/26) someone broke into our parked car on the northwest corner of monroe st and holmead place NW in columbia heights. Unfortunately, due to our relocation to that area, we had left some important documents in the trunk of our vehicle including birth certificate, passports, a handful of financial documents documents (though we had jewelry in the bag as well, I presume those will not be found). We are taking steps to protect ourselves by closing accounts; nevertheless, putting out this notice in the event a neighbor comes across delicate documents that may have been dumped in the trash in that area. We would love to recover the birth certificates in particular.

I can be reached either by email at [email protected] or phone at 202-854-1373.”

Ed. Note: Please, no need for judgement here. Obviously a mistake was made. This is known. If you happen to see any passports or birth certificates laying around or blowing down the street – just contact IK above. You can feel sanctimonious on reddit if you just can’t contain yourself. Thanks.

“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to let everyone that lives in Bloomingdale know that there is an attacker in the area. Unfortunately, he did not just snatch my purse and run, which would be bad enough – he continued to hold me after he had my purse, pushed me down into a lower level stairway, and attempted to take off my shirt. Fortunately, someone passed by at the right moment and heard me yelling, and I escaped with only bruises and scrapes. I hope this guy is caught before he can do anything similar or worse to anyone else, but it is unlikely that the police will be able to catch him from the information I was able to provide as I never got a good look at his face.

The attack happened around 7:15 PM as I was walking home from the Shaw metro station and was on the south side of Seaton NW between 1st and 2nd St. If by any chance anyone sees anything that might be of any help in solving this, please call the DC police tip line at (202) 727-9099.”

So much sadness – thanks to a commenter for posting more info about the 17 Year old stabbed to death at 8th and Upshur St, NW Sunday around 5:30pm.

There is a GoFundMe page for the family that simply and powerfully says:

“Jose Alexander Ochoa Unfortunately Passed Away On
December 20 , 2015 Because He Was Stabbed While Walking To His Girlfriend House.”

The Washington Post reported:

“Ochoa, a senior at Paul International High School, a charter school, had planned to go to college; he would have been the first in his family to do so.

Now, the family who just days ago was trying to figure out how to send Ochoa to college is struggling to find money for his funeral. They’ve put up donation boxes in local stores. They want to bury him in the District, but Maryland is less expensive.”

Ed. Note: In July there was a stabbing homicide aboard a Red Line train by NoMa. An arrest was made.

A reader passes on from the Brookland Listserv:

Attack on Metro at Rush Hour

Just to let the neighborhood know, I saw a group of kids beat a guy on the metro on the way home from work today. I got on the train at Union Station and realized I should move away from a group of 10 or 12 kids who were being loud and rowdy. And sure enough they egged each other on to attack a guy who was just sitting there for no reason. They were punching his head until he tried to move and then they knocked him out. When he came to he stumbled over to us where I had alerted the driver that we needed the train to stop and the police. He couldn’t remember what had happened and was totally out of it and was bleeding everywhere. The driver held the train at metro and kept the doors closed for a bit but the kids were running through the cars and escaped when the doors opened. They tried to lock down the station but I think they got on a train going in the other direction.

The poor guy had a broken jaw and his face was swollen beyond recognition. His poor wife was there at NoMa and held him until the ambulance came. She said he had texted her not to get on the car because there was a rowdy group and he was going to move. What a way to come home from work. Stay away from rowdy groups of kids and know how to alert the driver should you ever need to.

Some advice for metro: (more…)
