DC Attorney General “Sues Police Accountability Nonprofit & Executive For Misusing Charitable Funds, Violating Labor Laws”

“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today sued Raheem AI, a nonprofit created to improve transparency and accountability in policing, and its founder and Executive Director Brandon Anderson for violating the District’s nonprofit and workers’ rights laws. Anderson used Raheem AI’s charitable funds for his own personal benefit – specifically to support his luxurious lifestyle – while the organization failed to monitor spending or implement basic nonprofit governance requirements. Anderson and Raheem AI also failed to pay the organization’s sole District-based employee the wages she had earned and required her to sign an illegal non-compete clause. (more…)

“The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect connected to 12 sex offenses which occurred in the District of Colombia from 2021 to 2024

“Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of Unified Communications (OUC) Director Heather McGaffin announced a new “Make the Right Call” campaign. The campaign is aimed at educating residents and visitors about when it is appropriate to dial 911 and when they should instead utilize 311 to access the police non-emergency line and to request city services. “MPD Drone Flight Notification: MPD is conducting an authorized drone flight for a critical missing person in the area of the 4300 block of 13th Street, NW.”

Some background from MPD:

“The Metropolitan Police Department launched its Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Program in June 2024 for situations where “eyes in the sky” will be critical to ensure a safe resolution for all.

MPD joins over 1,500 police departments across the country that use UAS — also known as drones — to aid officers in real time.

The program’s procedures are specified in MPD’s General Order 803.09.

Uses and Parameters

MPD uses drones to support only those operations cited in the General Order, including help with:

Searching for missing persons
Major traffic crash reconstruction
Crowd management for large-scale gatherings
Situational and tactical purposes (such as a barricade)

Drones operated by MPD are subject to specific operational limitations.
