MPD reports around 8:30pm:
“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting at 7th Street and Rhode Island Avenue NW. An adult male has been transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Motorist and pedestrians in the area can expect road closures.
Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

A reader passes on a message sent to the Ward 1 and Ward 4 council members:
“In these incidents, an illegal “bomb” firework was lobbed directly at the front porches of two Petworth/Park View residents, the first on July 18th in Ward 4, and the second on July 20th in Ward 1. Ed. Note: I heard the latter was in Park View.
In the first incident, the bomb squad was called out. A hole was blown straight through the porch.
In the the second incident, the porch was severely damaged–mangling an iron rail. In both cases, the residents were at home. (more…)

I’m a resident on Bates St. NW, a quiet one-way street between P St. and Q St. NW, and 1st St. and 3rd St. NW (in Truxton Circle). This week, my neighbor’s small front garden has been repeatedly vandalized by the same individual, who has ripped out the same plant twice and tossed it onto the sidewalk. The attempted plant murders (a phrase I never thought I would write) have each occurred at around 5:30 a.m., one on Tuesday and one this morning (Friday). (more…)

A reader reports from Georgia and Girard Street, NW around 8am though not clear when the shots fired actually occurred:
“5 cop cars. Street taped off, including a business across Georgia.”
Looks like at least 11 shell markings. Another reader reports:
“I heard about a dozen rounds fired overnight on the 700 block of Gresham Place. It’s currently closed as MPD is investigating.”

“The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in reference to a First Degree Sexual Abuse While Armed (Knife) incident which occurred in the 5500 block of 8th Street, NW, on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at approximately 3:15 AM. The subject was captured by a nearby surveillance camera.

“It happened shortly after 3 a.m. when a man approached a home and knocked on the door on 8th Street between Kennedy and Longfellow streets.
A woman opened the door, and the man pulled out a knife and forced the woman to the ground outside.”
