Update from the Mayor’s Office:
“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Chief Robert J. Contee, III, and New York City Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Keechant Sewell today announced the arrest of the suspect in multiple shootings and murders of individuals experiencing homelessness across New York City and Washington, DC. Between March 3 and March 9, three men were shot in Washington, DC and one of those men succumbed to his injuries. This past weekend, two men were shot in New York City and one of those men succumbed to his injuries. MPD, the NYPD, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) began coordinating immediately on Sunday morning. Mayor Adams and Mayor Bowser spoke on Sunday as well, and both mayors, Commissioner Sewell, Chief Contee, ATF and others met yesterday to discuss the manhunt to locate the suspect. (more…)

Ed. Note: While OP doesn’t hand over his phone at the end, law enforcement advice I’ve seen always encourages turning over property in such cases as your phone can be replaced but your life can not. And not victim blaming here, this is an upsetting video especially knowing this is the second time it has happened to OP.

“Rakesh was an ICU and Infectious disease doctor. He’s been on the front lines all these past years. He’s been a friend and a colleague since 2017. The medical community is shocked.”

“We are heartbroken to learn of the sudden passing of Dr. Rakesh (Rick) Patel. He was the victim of a carjacking and a hit-and-run in the District, according to Metropolitan police. Dr. Patel was one of our Medical Intensive Care Unit fellows at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. After completing his Internal Medicine Residency at MedStar Washington, he stayed with us to complete his Infectious Diseases fellowship and was currently training as a Critical Care fellow. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. Please keep Dr. Patel’s family and peers in your thoughts and prayers during the days ahead.”

“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a vehicle sought in a fatal hit and run resulting that occurred on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the intersection of 18th Street and Florida Avenue, Northwest.
Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 8:03 pm, suspect entered the victim’s unoccupied vehicle in the 1800 block of Vernon Street, Northwest. The suspect attempted to flee the scene in the vehicle and struck the victim at the listed location. (more…)

Went to drop off my laundry for wash (Sunday around 2:15pm), first time in more than a year since this business used to be on Kennedy Street, and as I was leaving to run a couple errands, two kids started yelling at each other down New Hampshire which then lead to them traveling up towards the Laundromat parking lot.
