“Dear PoPville,
I didn’t have my wheels stolen, but I had my window shot out with interior damage and a bullet fragment lodged in the dash (steering wheel picture, between the gauges and the infotainment). I heard multiple gunshots last night. This was near the intersection of NH Ave and Shepherd St NW.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I was biking south on the Anacostia River Trail from Bladensburg Waterfront Park around 6:30 Friday evening when I heard a moped approach me from behind. I slowed and moved over to let him pass, but he slowed too. I sped up, he sped up. He matched my speed and stayed close behind for a good mile at least. I wasn’t sure what to do except keep going–no one passed me on the trail who I could ask for help, and there’s nowhere to pull off in that stretch.
He passed me and pulled off the trail, blocking the exit to the Aquatic Gardens, so I grabbed my pepper spray and accelerated past him, but he pulled back into the trail and caught up. (more…)

Thanks to J. for sending: “Wild crash at the corner of RI and NJ an hour ago (3:11am). Astonishingly loud. Amazingly, no one appeared to be seriously injured, minus the light pole and signs. Police detained two individuals from the SUV on its side (both were in handcuffs when I left). Intersection is still blocked off as of this email. Stay safe out there.”

“Dear PoPville,
This is sad. These three businesses on Fesseden all got broken into last night. Glass doors all shattered. The Coffee Nature guy said nothing but spare change was stolen. All the businesses are cleaning up and really sad. The police just left. I was there when the workers at Sol Mexican Grill showed up for work to find the police in front of their restaurant. Pretty sad to see them just stand there staring at the door.”
If anyone lives nearby, it’d be great to shower them with love today/this weekend:

“Dear PoPville,
I witnessed a wheel theft in progress this morning in Shaw. This was shortly after 5am when I went outside with my dog. Two thieves dressed in black were in the process of stealing wheels from my neighbor’s newer model Honda. I stopped next to them on the sidewalk, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I parked my car on 13th and Euclid St NW and my airbag was stolen – wanted to give a heads up in case you’d like to spread the word and warn people. Apparently thieves are targeting Hondas. I saw you had an article earlier about this but figured I’d let you know that it’s still going on. :(”

“Dear PoPville,
Last Monday (5/30, Memorial Day), around 11am, I was walking south on 8th street. At either the 8th and H or 8th and I NW intersection, a few blocks from the Chinatown/Gallery Place metro, I was looking at my phone while waiting for the walk sign to appear. All of a sudden, I felt an impact to my jaw–a man I’d never seen before had run up and punched me in the face. While I stood there in shock, a bystander quickly intervened, putting himself between me and the person who had attacked me. He told me to get away and call the police and started shouting and following the person who attacked me. Meanwhile, the person who attacked me was still shouting at me. Because of this bystander, I was able to get away without further harm.
I’m an East Asian woman, and because of the rise in violence against women who look like me, I can’t help but feel that I was targeted at least in part because of my race and gender. (more…)
