The New York Times reviews Marvin, located at 14th and U, in this weekend’s New York Times Style section.
My favorite quote from the article: “At the edge of the deck, the smell of the fries being cooked downstairs wafted up to the crowd.

It is a beautiful sight and a welcome one for the coming warmer weather. I spoke to Sasha, the owner of Red Derby at 14th and Quincy, who mentioned that brunch will be offered starting next Sunday! Always nice to have another cool brunch option. I can’t remember what will be on the menu but it sounded awesome. I’ll post the menu shortly. So what’s your favorite spot for brunch?

To me, I walk by this joint, and I imagine 14th Street in its hey day back in the day. I don’t know why but imagine very well dressed folks walking out after listening to great jazz back in the 50s or early 60s. I hope it has a proper renaissance.

A reader writes: “I know you don’t like to get political :) but I thought maybe you would want to let your readers know they can participate in the ANC1B meeting next Thursday if they have any concerns about the reopening of Republic Gardens. The meeting is April 3rd at the True Reformer Building (12th & U) at 7:00PM.”
I never knew people had a beef with the Republic Gardens, what’s the story there? Why was it closed down in the first place?
Below is the Press Release from Councilmember Bower’s office.

I just noticed the old Common Share space on 18th Street has a new sign – The Blaguard. Anyone know when it is supposed to open? Think they’ll still have $2 pints?

When Marvin first opened I’d say in general people loved it. Recently I’ve been starting to hear from some folks that it is too crowded and/or has lost some of its initial shine. So now that it has been open a few months has your opinion changed at all?

I’m assuming that is what open mic is or maybe it’s open mic comedy? No, “libations with harmonizations” means karaoke, right? Anyway, it’s Tuesday, March 11th at 8:30pm. Solly’s of course is located right at the corner of 11th and U Street. If anyone checks it out be sure to write in and let us know how it went.

I can deal with not wearing a cap or baggy pants or sneakers but if I can’t wear my bandanna then this is no nightclub for me…and where are all the Target bartenders going to go?
Looking Glass Lounge (LGL) has hired Andy Adam Stein as its new head chef. (Ed. note: I will have an interview with Andy in the coming week or so.) I did get to take a peek at the new dinner menu this morning. Some new choices include Cast Iron Tuna ($15), Grilled Salmon ($17), 140z Pork Porterhouse ($12), Grilled Flat Iron Steak ($16), 1/2 Rack Baby Back Ribs ($15), Brick Chicken ($11), Peel & Eat Shrimp ($7), Nicoise Salad ($11) and lots of sandwiches including the great Black Angus Burger ($8), and other light fare including chili. Pretty, pretty cool.
