From an email:

Chocolate City Beer will be releasing (first time since spring) our Cerveza Nacional Dark Vienna Lager in Petworth on Halloween night. DC Reynolds, Blue Banana and The Looking Glass Lounge will be offering $4 pints of CCB- both Cornerstone Copper Ale and Cerveza Nacional all night long. We are hoping for people to celebrate in costumes while enjoying our roasted malt, creamy lager in a great little stretch of bars in Petworth.

I was lucky enough to be invited to Cause’s opening event and the finished space looks amazing. I was also able to meet some of the organizations who will benefit from Cause’s philanthropy and was, for the first time, realizing how awesome this place really is. I’m betting there will be an Oprah or some national news coverage in the near future if they can pull this off. While I tasted some delicious drinks, I’m eager to go back and try the menu. Wishing them the very best. We will revisit for a proper judging after they’ve been open a bit.

Last week we learned Blackbyrd would become a Vietnamese restaurant and Chez Billy would soon benefit by taking over their raw bar and oyster happy hour. From the folks at Chez Billy:

“Starting Tuesday October 30th, Chez Billy will offer it’s oyster happy hour Tuesday through Friday from 5:30 – 8:00 in the bar. Fresh, delicious, shucked to order oysters delivered daily by our Chincoteague, VA purveyor will be available for $1 each. Pair them up with $5 Muscadet; $5 Champagne; $5 Stella Artois Pints; or our $5 Cocktail of the day.”

Not sure the likelihood of this one but thought it was pretty interesting – I hear that Old Dominion Brewery could be looking to open another brew house location in the renovated Union Market at 1309 5th St, NE. And what could be even more interesting is that I heard there could be a rooftop beer garden involved. It wasn’t clear to me if would be like the one by the convention center or more like the one in Hyattsville. Purely scuttlebutt at the moment but I’ll be sure to update if this turns out to be true.

Back in early Aug. I asked folks what they’d like to see come to the former laundromat next to Red Derby after hearing a number of rumors. We’ve now got the answer – a bar called Lyman’s. The liquor license posted out front says it will be a:

“Tavern serving bar food with a seating capacity of 70. Occupancy load of 70. Requesting a summer garden with a seating capacity of 20 and entertainment endorsement featuring live music.”

The Washingtonian says:

The Raven Grill owner Merid Admassu is teaming up with Kevin Perone and Cafe Saint Ex’s Jessica Kleinmann on a tavern called Lyman’s at 3720 14th Street, Northwest.

There will be at least two pinball tables and a 20-seat heated patio with a retractable roof, a latticed privacy fence, and an indoor-outdoor counter so you can order drinks without having to go inside.

Updates as construction progresses. This could be an awesome addition to the neighborhood.

Back in March 2012 we first learned that Cause would be taking over the old La Carbonara Space at 1926 9th St, NW just south of U Street.

They’ve completed their extensive renovations and the two floor space looks great:

Lots of great reclaimed wood:

Awesome skylights throughout:

Here’s a first look at their menu:

Port City Monumental IPA
Lost Rhino RhinO’Fest Marzen
Chocolate City “Bridge Builder” Scotch Ale

They are having a sneak preview party on Saturday. Tickets are $50 for admission, hors d’oeurves, plus beer and wine. The grand opening will be Wed. Oct. 24th at 8pm. You can read all about their philosophy here.

From an the folks at Boundary Road:

“Boundary Road is teaming up with the makers of Green Hat Gin to celebrate the launch of DC’s first legally distilled liquor. Distilled a mile and a half from Boundary Road, Green Hat is a deliciously smooth, citrusy gin, produced in small batches in a copper pot still. We’ve put together a special cocktail menu for the night, and the distiller will be on hand to chat, answer any questions, and sip a drink or two with you.

5-8pm at Boundary Road. 414 H St NE DC.”

Dear PoPville,

Do you by chance know what’s going on with not-yet-opened All Souls Tavern at 8th and T, NW?

Last I heard they were targeting a Halloween opening. I walked by today and it looks like there are a couple of white bench/table things in there, but overall, it still looks very decrepit, inside and out and certainly nowhere close to opening. An employee from a nearby business commented that there had been some activity there, but they hadn’t seen anything happening for a few weeks. What gives?

Lots of folks have been writing asking about the status of All Souls. I’m told, unfortunately, there was a delay getting structural engineer plans which was needed before permitting was issued. That seems to be back on track and the new goal is to now open in “early 2013”.

Big news for the 3900 block of Georgia Avenue in Petworth. The owners of the Blaguard have taken over 3911 Georgia Ave, NW (next to Qualia Coffee) and plan on doing an extensive renovation (9 months to a year) before opening a new bistro and beer garden for the back patio.

The 3900 block of Georgia Ave continues it’s renaissance starting with Qualia Coffee and more recently, renovations have brought a new dry cleaners, real estate office, consignment store and a new chiropractor’s office is also coming to 3909 Georgia Ave, NW.

Can’t wait to learn more about the new bistro and beer garden!
