Also hoping all is well with their upstairs cousin Handsome Cock?

Update: On Twitter I’m told they just had to change their name back to Touchdown.

Their handsome sign is gone:

14th and Quincy St, NW

From the Red Derby:

“On Saturday, August 20th, starting at 8pm, we’ll be hosting our

8th Annual Derby Prom

Glam Rock is the theme, paying homage to Prince and Bowie.

We’ll have a special punch called Killer Queen. And the Derby will be decked out with Glam Rock accoutrements. And, of course, we encourage our guests to don their thrift store finery.
The back room will have a prom backdrop, and Ann Marie will be taking prom photos. We’ll also have a roving photographer taking candids. Any money that folks might want to contribute will be donated to DASH, District Alliance for Safe Housing, and our back-to-school drive for the kiddos.”

From an email:

“What’s better than combining pictionary with cards against humanity? Adding $3 pints of PBR, prizes and free drinks! Every Tuesday at Ivy and Coney (1537 7th St NW) from 8-10 PM, you’ll find us on the deck playing Drawful, an awesome interactive game for the whole family (minus the kids, it can get a little adult-only). Every bar has got a trivia night, so we decided to change it up a bit and introduce people to this awesome game we’ve all become obsessed with playing. Everyone can play, no arcane knowledge is required, and bad artists are not only welcome, but encouraged to join in (don’t worry, we suck too). We’ll do as many rounds as we can fit into a couple hours (probably 4-7) and make sure everyone gets to enjoy the fun. So come drink with us, make some silly pictures and guess whether your friend just drew Britney Spears Riding an Eagle or A Kid Stuck On the Escalator Again.”

DRAWFULNIGHT

Also happening at Ivy and Coney:

“One of DC’s original and favorite – but now retired – food trucks returns curbside next week slinging what they were known best for: A whole lotta meat.

Ivy & Coney, the second bar and restaurant opened by Josh Saltzman of PORC food truck fame, will be serving their Chicago-style Italian Beef Sandwich aboard BBQ Bus starting Monday and ending Friday at Truckeroo.

The Italian Beef, a Chicago classic, is comprised of thinly sliced roast beef dipped in seasoned au jus and topped with giardiniera (spicy pickled vegetables) on an Italian hard roll. Order it DRY, WET (au jus ladled on) or DIPPED (the whole sandwich dipped into au jus).

And for BBQ Bus fans unable to catch the truck for a downtown lunch, the BBQ Bus Pulled Pork Sandwich will be on the menu at Ivy & Coney all next week.

Saltzman and business partner Trent Allen opened the PORC food truck in 2010, went on to open Kangaroo Boxing Club and retired the food truck two years later.

The Italian Beef is one of several new dishes on the newly expanded Ivy & Coney menu, which features Midwest favorites such as hot dogs, bratwursts and a weekend brunch. Ivy and Coney is at 1537 7th St NW and open Monday through Thursday 4 pm to 2 am, Friday 4 pm to 3 am, Saturday noon to 3 pm, and Sunday noon to 2 am.

Find the Italian Beef aboard BBQ Bus at the following lunch stops: (more…)

Last week we noted The Passenger was looking ready to open in their new digs soon. And soon, sorta, means Monday the 15th. They’ll be having a “Rent Party”:

“We’re having a Rent party on Monday, August 15th. Why? Because it’s the 15th and we still gotta pay rent! Our friends @FilibusterDC are bringing the rye, and @schlitzbrewing is sending the beer. @HariKaraoke is helping you supply the tunes! $40 (cash) at the door for all the beers, shots and live band karaoke, 8p-12a Monday!!!!”

It’s a Monday in August so there probably won’t be too many people around…or it’s gonna be the greatest party of the summer!

Checking out the coming coming Sugar Shack I noticed that Axum has gone the way of Shashamene. Feels like just yesterday they got all fixed up. Super prime spot these days so we’ll be sure to update when we learn who takes over the lease.

And around the corner there’s finally some progress at the coming Dirty Goose, a “new bar and restaurant serving DC’s LGBT community”. Stay tuned for an opening date.

“Dear PoPville,

I passed Dickson’s Wine Bar earlier today and saw that it was ‘closed for repairs’. Interesting word choice. Perhaps they mean renovation? Lately, it seems things closing for renovation reopen as completely different concepts. Any word on whether Dickson’s will return as Dickson’s?”

Dickson opened up with great fanfare back in 2010. Updates when more is known.
