Last week we learned a a new coffee shop (with cocktails) was coming to Logan Circle. They’ve now applied for a liquor license and it reveals an interesting detail – Roof deck summer garden:

“New Tavern. Pastry shop/coffee house serving small plates. Sidewalk Café and Roof deck Summer Garden. Occupancy load is 160.”

Hours will be Sunday through Saturday 7 am – 2 am.

A couple of weeks ago we learned a new coffee spot would be taking over the former Slices on the Walk space outside Clyde’s off 7th Street outside the movie theater. They opened yesterday and it is the real deal. Serious Illy coffee and a nice little outdoor seating area too.

Well this could be awesome. Owners, Ryan Fleming and Miranda Mirabella, share a few details about the new shop in an email:

“Located in the Fathom Creative building at 1333 14th Street NW

– Innovative new coffee shop with a focus on elevated service
– Plan to complement coffee with cocktail offering in the evening based on the same service-focused approach
– Active community involvement and charity will be core to the business

The Shop will be located in the front of the street-level floor and Fathom will remain in the rear.”

If all goes well they plan on opening in early 2014. Stay tuned for more info in the next few weeks. The shop will be located between Churchkey/Birch&Barley and Monarch Novelties just south of Rhode Island Ave:

From an email:

“Tryst Coffeehouse, Bar & Lounge, located in Adams Morgan, recognized its 15th anniversary on September 1st. From Sunday, September 15th through Monday, September 30th, Tryst will celebrate its 15 years in Adams Morgan by offering “15 Days of Tryst”.

Tryst is bringing back its 1998 opening house coffee price – $1.50 for an in-house cup for these 15 days. In addition, Tryst will offer guests an assortment of popular throwback dishes and cocktails that have been featured throughout the years including the Danielle Salad, made with fresh mesclun greens, tomato, cucumber, Kalamata olives, and feta cheese drizzled served with a house-made pear vinaigrette and the Mary Sandwich, made with turkey breast, Tryst’s Avocado Spread, tomatoes, lettuce, and white cheddar served on a sourdough baguette. Both menu items, like many others, are named after longtime loyal customers. In addition, Tryst is bringing back one snack offered at opening, Swedish Fish served in a large martini glass.

Throughout the 15 Days of Tryst, guests may participate in an interactive timeline featured on the walls of the restaurant, adding on to photos, old menus, and guests’ stories about their life-changing events that occurred at Tryst.

When owner Constantine Stavropoulos, a Philadelphia native, moved to D.C. he sought to create a place where people go to connect with one another—a third place—away from home and the office. “The Greeks have tavernas, the French have cafes, and the Germans have their beer pubs. It’s…a place that kind of helps define you, the community.” 15 years later, Tryst is still just that to the Adams Morgan neighborhood, to the greater DC community, and even to first time DC visitors. Tryst has become DC’s community gathering place and helped establish DC as the east coast epicenter of specialty coffee. With its “No Corporate Coffee, No Matching Silverware” motto, Tryst welcomes you in to hang out drinking coffee, sipping on craft cocktails, snacking on a wide range of salads, sandwiches and small plates, viewing monthly changing art exhibits, and listening to live music.”

Thanks to Caroline for sending word:

“On Tuesday, September 3, Takoma welcomed its newest and long-awaited business, La Mano Coffee Bar. La Mano had a more-onerous-than-usual road to opening after dealing with permitting delays and a surprise, last-minute bill from PEPCO for over $10,000.

As the initial projected early spring opening moved into mid-summer, Javier Rivas and Anna Petrillo, the owners, turned to the community through an indiegogo campaign and weekly pop-ups. With this community support, La Mano raised over $15,000 in two months and removed the final hurdles to opening.

Those supporters turned out in droves to welcome La Mano on opening day. Visitors were treated to an array of coffees and teas as well as pastries made in-house. Petrillo described the first weekend as busy and challenging but great.”
