Thanks to Maggie for passing on from Loaf Coffee:
“As of Nov 1st, Loaf Coffee will be under new ownership. Thank you to everyone who supported us during this crazy, educational and enlightening adventure. You will be missed and remembered.
…
We will remain open Oct 30 and 31, from 7am-12pm, to serve drinks and limited hot foods. (I’ve been told by a credible source that there is a very good chance of free coffee on Oct 31.)
…
We wish you the best.”

Thanks to Elayne for restoring calm:
“people in a panic that Starbucks on L St, NW near CT. Ave. is closed. Don’t worry, it’s just for 2 weeks for renovations.”

625 H Street, NE
From Starbucks:
“The new Starbucks Signing Store in Washington, D.C., is led by a diverse team of employees who are all fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
The store, the first of its kind in the United States, is down the street from Gallaudet University, a bilingual (English and ASL) institution for Deaf and hard of hearing students. It was inspired by a similar store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, that opened in 2016 with nine Deaf partners.
The infrastructure and experiences in the new Washington, D.C., Signing Store were designed to create a melding of worlds and the best possible experience for partners and customers alike, whether they are Deaf, hard of hearing or hearing.” (more…)
Thanks to Rachel for sending:
“Oooo! New signage up in the old Bean and Bite space on 15th between L and M. Been empty for about a year, I think??”
Lauren (and others) lament Bean and Bite’s closing after Christmas 2016.
And thanks to Loren for sharing Sweet Leaf’s ridiculously good looking menu.

From a press release:
“The Union Market District continues its commitment to nurturing burgeoning local businesses with the arrival of The Village Cafe (1272 5th Street NE), slated for a soft opening on October 9, followed by a grand opening on October 23.
When founders and Washington natives Kevon King, Mahammad Mangum and Ryan Williams met as kids, they bonded at Woodrow Wilson High School, where they pursued their passions in the business, creative and culinary fields, respectively.
Recognizing that cafés are the ultimate social gathering place, the trio embarked upon opening their own establishment that would not only bring quality food and drink to underserved communities, but that would also uplift the “village” that make those communities tick. (more…)

Thanks to Jeff for sending:
