From an email:

Brompton, the iconic folding city bike, just announced the launch of Brompton Borrow—a new program that lets DC-ers reserve up to two Brompton bikes (excluding e-bikes) for a full day, free of charge. The program officially kicks off on 8/30 for Labor Day weekend, as we head into early fall and prime DC biking weather!

“Dear PoPville,

On Monday (7/29) around 9:10 pm, I was biking on the MBT alone and came across a group of teenagers on the path. I wasn’t able to pass so I was biking behind them but the group stopped walking and a few guys slowly walked toward me asking for directions. They grabbed me and tried to take my belongings but another biker came shortly after and scared them away. A huge thank you to the man who was biking on the MBT Monday night and made sure I was ok! And a reminder to everyone else to be cautious and alert!

Ed. Note: Anyone with info/who spots the bike can email me at [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP.

“Dear PoPville,

On Monday evening, my husband stopped off at a friend’s house after picking our kids up from daycare on his e-bike (a white Lectric Xpedition 2.0 with black infant seat on the back). In a momentary lapse of caution, he left the bike unlocked in front of our friends’ house in Brentwood for about 15 minutes while he brought the kids inside to say hi to their friends. By the time he came back out, the bike was gone. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

It was packed and there were tons of people in the southbound lane coming toward us. So out of nowhere, a guy on his bike comes busting up on my left and yells (more…)

Toni shares an email sent to WABA:

“I am reaching out to seek your assistance in addressing a critical issue affecting bicyclists in our neighborhood of Bloomingdale. Currently, First Street NW serves as the primary north-south biking thoroughfare sharing the lane with motor vehicles. It is a precarious situation, but First Street NW offers the only safe route for cyclists in a neighborhood that has many cyclists but lacks biking infrastructure. Additionally, First Street NW is the only viable biking access point to the brand new Reservoir Park and Community Center and the development that is underway at the former McMillan site. There are no alternative north-south streets in Bloomingdale: North Capitol is a highway hostile to bikes and 2nd Street cuts off at Bryant Street in the north and Florida Avenue in the south. However, there is a proposed bus route in the “2025 Better Bus Network” from WMATA that threatens to compromise the safety and accessibility of this route for bicyclists. (more…)
