“Dear PoPville,
My wife was involved in a hit and run (she was on a bike) yesterday in Adams Morgan, Columbia Rd NW and Belmont around 6:00 am. She was crossing in the crosswalk to get to the bike lane and the individual ran her over and and continued to drive away to then hit a cab at the next intersection. She was arrested and thrown in jail. I know you try and bring awareness to pedestrian safety and yesterday our family become a statistic. She’s still in the hospital with lots of stitches and some chipped teeth. All this considered, very lucky.
DC needs to do better.”

“Looks like the first bus island is being built on 14th Street as part of the Streetscape project. This is at 14th and N. They’re apparently going to stretch all the way up to Florida. Interested in learning bike repair skills and helping your neighbors? The Bike House runs community bike repair clinics on Saturdays at Annie’s Ace Hardware in Petworth and on Sundays at the Bloomingdale Farmer’s Market. We need volunteers of all skill levels to help run the clinics. (They’re a great place for beginners to learn!)

hahaha this is a new one even for me! Thanks to Haleigh for sending over the weekend from Insomnia Cookie’s H Street, NE location.
I thought this was pretty cool as I got out of an uber last night – Drop off near bike lane alert:
“A Bike Month reminder: Look over your shoulder for people on bikes before opening the door.”
Hopefully they keep this alert year round and not just for ‘Bike Month’.

There was a hit and run that happened last night at approximately 9:55 PM at the intersection of R ST NW and 6th ST NW. I was about to cross 6th street, standing on R when I saw a cyclist (who had a green light) crossing 6th street in the bike lane on R St. At the same time, a speeding car driver turning left from Rhode Island Ave NW ran the red light and T-boned the cyclist at the intersection, sending him and his bike flying. The car driver decelerated for a few seconds, and sped away on 6th street heading south. (more…)
