From an email:

“I represent the family of a recent college grad who was critically injured in a bicycle crash on Sunday, June 23rd at about 11:30 am at the intersection of 11 and U Street, NW. As a result of the crash, he fractured his skull and sustained a traumatic brain injury – and he was just released from Howard Hospital days ago after undergoing a craniotomy and spending significant time in the ICU.

Now that he is finally out of the hospital, his family is trying to identify any witnesses who might have more information about the crash.”

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to alert the community to something I’ve noticed the past few months. I walk to the Shaw metro each morning and have noticed a growing amount of groups of bikes locked to posts along the way. Mostly at the intersection of Rhode Island Ave and 8th St NW, on both sides of Rhode Island. The bikes are parked at the back of the Shaw library and in front of an Airbnb (Airbnb has it’s own yard and storage areas, so unlikely they’re for their guests). (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My wife was involved in a hit and run (she was on a bike) yesterday in Adams Morgan, Columbia Rd NW and Belmont around 6:00 am. She was crossing in the crosswalk to get to the bike lane and the individual ran her over and and continued to drive away to then hit a cab at the next intersection. She was arrested and thrown in jail. I know you try and bring awareness to pedestrian safety and yesterday our family become a statistic. She’s still in the hospital with lots of stitches and some chipped teeth. All this considered, very lucky.

DC needs to do better.”

Yesterday the gauntlet was thrown down by Jonathan Murray:

“I think it’s time for an investigation into if/when the @bikeshare/@lyft e-bikes are coming back, led by @PoPville”

But I have answered, and answered with vigor:

Capital Bikeshare shares with us, “We’re committed to bringing them back in the fall. Can’t wait!”

Awesome. Thanks to Steven for sending:

“Looks like the first bus island is being built on 14th Street as part of the Streetscape project. This is at 14th and N. They’re apparently going to stretch all the way up to Florida. It explains why they’ve been tearing down shelters up and down 14th. They will be move to the islands once they’re built.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Interested in learning bike repair skills and helping your neighbors? The Bike House runs community bike repair clinics on Saturdays at Annie’s Ace Hardware in Petworth and on Sundays at the Bloomingdale Farmer’s Market. We need volunteers of all skill levels to help run the clinics. (They’re a great place for beginners to learn!)

Attend one of our upcoming volunteer orientations to get started: (more…)
