From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close Rock Creek Park Trail between the P Street NW Ramp from Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway and Shoreham Drive NW on or about Monday, September 13, 2021, weather permitting. This closure will be in place for approximately seven months.

This temporary closure is necessary to reconstruct the existing Rock Creek Park Trail as part of the part of the Rock Creek Park Multi-Use Trail and Pedestrian Bridge project. (more…)

FMC writes: “are we getting a ramp down from MBT to Florida next to elevation apartments and The Eleanor?”

Jason replies: “Yes, from what I’ve heard, that will be a ramp from MBT down to Florida. And it’s about to look a lot prettier very soon…”

Stay tuned.

“Dear PoPville,

Something I’ve noticed recently, empty capital bike share racks. I live in DuPont and the 6 racks closest to me had 3 bikes available total on Saturday afternoon. And when I walked over to the 15th and P rack there were 5 bikes that were out of service with the red lights. Thinking on it this has been the norm lately, one to two bikes at racks built to hold 15+. I walked up to a rack on Pennsylvania Ave in foggy bottom Friday and it had one bike with a flat tire. Any idea if they are struggling as a company or have just stopped maintenance on their fleet due to the pandemic dropping demand?”

“Dear PoPville,

Looking for ideas for how to secure bikes outside our house. We’ve had several bikes stolen from our backyard, even when locked with two high quality locks each. Bringing them inside is not an option. Would love ideas for how to secure them. Has anyone used a small shed? Taking off a tire and the seat? Anything else?”

“Dear PoPville,

Was riding with a group of about ten cyclists last night heading down MacArthur Blvd. Right near where it meets Sangamore, a driver in a white Alfa Romeo SUV started leaning on their horn. Then as they passed (dangerously close, giving us less than three feet) they began shouting expletives at our group. None of this fazed me too much – I’ve handled my fair share of abuse from unhappy people in cars – but what happened next really put me off. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was on the patio of Conte’s Bike Shop (Q Street) on Monday evening using their bike pump when I coughed a little, before reflexively apologizing to the beautiful girl who was nearby (clear glasses, cornflower blue skirt, light blonde hair). We talked (briefly) about how we’re both vaccinated, so maybe everything is okay now (or maybe it’s not). I think there was a spark, but then again, I haven’t spoken to a stranger in like a year, so….

Coda: yesterday my bike was stolen around Dupont, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I am writing to report a really scary incident that happened to me on the Capital Crescent Trail.

I was biking last night around 9pm on the trail toward Georgetown and it was dark outside (I usually don’t bike this trail that late but today I happened to start my ride later and I found myself in the dark). I was actually feeling really good because I was going faster than I normally go and I was actively thinking how proud of myself I was. All of a sudden – the Key bridge by the entrance of the trail in sight – a rabbit jumps out in front of me. I quickly dodge it but the quick motion causes my chain to come off. I am kinda laughing at myself at how foolish I was to almost be taken out by a rabbit- when I notice two men approaching me and shouting drunkenly in the dark (coming from Georgetown). Living in dc for 5 years I (sadly) am pretty used to this and so I ignore them and put my chain back on. Then I notice they are sprinting towards me (more…)
