On Thursday, February 23rd at 5:59-6:00pm (It was the unusually warm 80 degree February day) I was biking north on 14th St NW in the bike lane between S and T streets NW (right in front of Gypsy Kitchen) when I approached a rideshare driver who was idling illegally in the bike lane, blocking it entirely and forcing me over between the bike lane and parked vehicles. A passenger of that ride share then ‘doored’ me (flung his door open without looking and hit me) as I was going by. (more…)

Back on (an unseasonably warm) Nov. 12, I was walking with a friend on 14th St. around midday and saw a group of maybe 5ish women biking together. They looked to be about my speed (18 mph range), and were outfitted in bike gear. I was wondering if they’re a bike group and taking in new members — I’d love to find a group of female bikers to join, rather than the…not always welcoming male-led groups.”

My condo association has been trying to purchase a bike rack in order to comply with a DC city ordinance that resident buildings with more than 8 units require permanent bike storage. The rules are fairly strict, but our residents are also really eager to have safe bike storage. (more…)
