Farewell formstone…
A reader reports:
“Saw this on Friday. They are chipping the formstone off the old Fringe building on New York Ave. NW with a hammer and chisel.”
Ed. Note: Capital Fringe is now located at 1358-1360 Florida Ave, NE.
And thanks to a twitter reader for reminding me that this was also A.V. Ristorante Italiano’s space that closed in 2007. Here’s a couple shots from flickr:

Thanks to a reader for sending. Here’s what 11th and W St, NW used to look like:
Caught this one out of the corner of my eye while I was driving and almost wrecked. But damn I like it. You guys? It’s near Manor Park but I can’t remember where exactly so don’t know how much it’s going for. Anyone happen to recognzie where it is exactly?
Park View above and Shaw below.
This is the corner that faced some neighborhood opposition.
Their website says:
“Fifty Three – Thirty Three is at the crossroads of Connecticut Avenue and Military Road, in the heart of Chevy Chase. Here, an urban sophisticated lifestyle is wedded with residential luxury, establishing the essence of crafted, modern design. Every room, every kitchen and each garden eases and inspires—so you can breathe in all of life’s little happenings.”
Anticipated opening Summer 2015.
Jan. 2013:
7th and Massachusetts Ave, NW
Like the way it turning out?
Ed. Note: Still haven’t seen any more on a future RPM Italian restaurant in the building.
A nice twin to the new building (where the new CVS is coming):
Old NPR building prior to demo in 2013:
From Holmead Place, NW in Columbia Heights. Like the way it’s turning out? Looks like the same folks coming to Grant Circle. Anyway, I dig all the windows but will reserve final judgement until construction is totally finished. Getting close though!
The details are obscured a bit by the shadow but you can get an idea how incredible it is. Also from Capitol Hill.

Florida and 8th Street, NW looking east toward 7th/Georgia Ave
And a reader sends a pretty sick rendering of the roof:
“Atlantic Plumbing DC
Northeast Blizzard? Say what? We are busy daydreaming about our rooftop pool. So ready for this and summer!”
8th and V St, NW by the 9:30 Club
So cool – thanks to NP for sending! You like the way it’s turning out?
