“Sending along a photo of Raina, aka “Traffic Kitty,” who is 6-weeks old. I was in an Uber driving to work a week ago in the rain when I spotted a very very tiny kitty in the middle of 395! The uber driver was nice enough to pull off while I ran back and managed to catch her. She’d been just sitting there alone in a mud puddle, along one of the concrete barriers.

Despite her rough start, she only had minor eye infections and, with treatment, is now doing great! Here are before and after shots of her. The before was taken in the Uber right after we caught her. And, kudos to the Uber driver Michael who was brave enough to stop his car for me so we could rescue her.

Kudos to Atlas Vet who helped nurse her back to health and who waived their normal emergency fee due to “good Samaritanism.”

“My little girl, Niña, was laid to rest on Saturday, July 9th, after giving us close to 17 years of life.

I rescued her from the shelter at 6 years old, after she had endured being abused and unsuccessfully shuffled between several homes. Miss Niña and I struck a deal, paw in hand, that my home was her last stop and we made sure to fill each others’ lives with incredible love and adventures.”

ripley dumb tongue

This is Lt. Ripley, Ellen, Last Surviving Member of the Starfreighter Nostromo. She is doing her “dumb tongue” pose here. Yes, she is a greyhound; she is not a whippet. Yes, she’s a rescue and she used to race. No, she was not a good racer, which is why we adopted her at 2 and she now lives the good life in Glover Park. Yes, we have seen the other greyhounds in the neighborhood. Yes, she is very fast; she can run faster than 40MPH. No, she doesn’t need a lot of exercise; she sleeps pretty much all the time. She’s basically a giant, skinny cat. (Just preempting all of the usual questions :) )

She lives with her big brother Iggy Pop The Cat, who tolerates her existence. He was enjoying New Years in this picture.

iggy new years
