“Buska is a pretty 7-year-old lady who was brought to the shelter when her owner was too ill to care for her. Having suffered abuse from a prior owner as a kitten, Buska can be very nervous in new surroundings, but she does well once she warms up, and loves to play with toys, get petted, and hand out head butts! Buska is gentle and sweet, and would do best in a calm, quiet home, with an experienced cat owner and no small children. She is up to date on all vaccines, and has tested negative for FIV and FELV. With gentle and consistent care, we know Buska can be a lifelong loving companion – can she be yours? Find out more about adopting Buska here or email [email protected]

“Tess is a senior lady whose loyalty to her original owner lasted 12 years – sadly, her owner is now in need of constant care in a memory care facility, so resilient Miss Tess is in need of a new forever home. This 15-lb. Jack Russell mix has lived in all kinds of circumstances, including in a car for a while, but is adjusting beautifully to living in a stable home, and is very laidback and snuggly. Tess also loves exploring her neighborhood on lots of walks, and as a proper lady, knows to ignore barking dogs! She is afraid of crates but is not at all destructive, and her foster family is working hard on perfecting her housetraining – with her prior owner’s history, Tess didn’t have a consistent schedule, but she’s catching on quickly! She is in good health and has no mobility issues, and is very affectionate and connected with her people! Please consider giving this trouper a chance at the pampered golden years she deserves. Find out more about adopting Tess here.”

Volunteer Author’s Note – While these adoptable pets are from different rescue organizations, both ended up in need of homes when their owners were no longer able to care for them.  Whether due to illness, circumstances beyond control, or even death, it’s a wise idea to have a backup plan to protect your pet(s).  Please see this link from the Humane Society of the United States, http://www.humanesociety.org/assets/pdfs/pets/pets_in_wills_factsheet.pdf, which provides information on planning.  You can also create a Pet Protection Plan at LegalZoom, https://www.legalzoom.com/personal/estate-planning/pet-protection-agreement-overview.html, which provides written instructions in case you are unable to communicate your wishes.

“Casey of Park View – she’s very into mint tea, but remains calm.”

Theresa passes on the request from HRA:

“As many of you have heard, our washing machine is broken at our Oglethorpe Street shelter so we could use any towels or bedding (not down comforters or sheets, please) you can spare. Our staff has been taking as much as possible to the laundromat, but some of our linens will have to be thrown away, so even if you can’t bring donations today we can still use them, so bring them over to Oglethorpe. ( 71 Oglethorpe Street, NW)”

Tecla is the sweetest dog. She LOVES people and is very gentle with her foster’s four-year-old. Tecla initially had some hesitation around her foster “dad” and would flinch when approached, however it didn’t taken much time for her to warm up to him and now she happily accept pets. Tecla is very loving and likes to follow her people around the house. She likes to get on the couch and snuggle with her people. This affectionate girl will ask for pets to let you know just how much she loves you! Tecla is a quiet girl who walks well on the leash and is great with other dogs and kids. She would make a great new best friend for you! To apply please visit: www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adoptable-dogs.html
Arabella is a sweet girl with a pretty striped tail. She has one discolored eye that just adds to her charm. Arabella is fond of the company of other cats. She loves to watch birds and squirrels from the window. She also loves playing with her toys and treats. She is adventurous and explores her new home, especially the cat tree. Arabella is shy and would do best in a quiet household with no kids. She is looking for a forever home to live the life — relaxing, sleeping, playing indoors.
