Meet Callie! In addition to her gorgeous calico coloring and sweet face, she’s living proof that it’s worth taking a chance on an animal in need. Rescued from a sad hoarding situation in a rural area in SC, we were told that Callie was very shy and picky about her feline friends and would probably do best as an only kitty. As it turned out, Callie wasn’t cranky – she was in pain, from bladder stones. Now that she has been properly treated, it turns out that Callie is GREAT with other animals, including the four cats and one dog she was being fostered with. Callie is still shy initially, but does open up after a few days and is playful, seeks attention, and is even a bit talkative at meal time. She is beautiful, has the softest coat, and has perfect manners in the house. She has fully recovered but she will need to be on a special diet to prevent future stones. But don’t allow that to discourage you: the diet is no more expensive than a reasonably-priced, good quality cat food.

At 8 years young, she has outgrown the crazy kitten “zoomies,” but she has plenty of life and spunk left to share with her forever family. She’s been through so much… now it’s time to find her the home she has always deserved and will so appreciate. To learn more about adopting Callie, please visit here.

Say hello to Jester, who’s so lovable, a whole shelter team advocated to get him into rescue before his time was up. When DC PAWS Rescue agreed to rescue Jester, the celebration could be heard throughout the building! Now he is one step closer to a forever home – can you help? Described as “ridiculously friendly” with other dogs and humans, this lab/boxer/Heinz 57 mix is a fairly “chill” boy, though he LOVES playing with toys and finds his inner puppy for a good play sesh. So while well past the crazy puppy stage, Jester still has energy to play and be active, but settles down nicely inside the home to be snuggly and calm. One look into his soulful eyes, and you will see why he was a shelter favorite. He has not yet been tested with cats, but we can easily do that if your family includes a feline god or goddess. To explore giving Jester the loving forever home he so deserves, please visit here.

Please allow us to introduce you to Maggie. Found as a stray in rural South Carolina, sweet little Maggie is now in foster care in the DMV area. Her foster family advises that she is very connected to her person, and will make an excellent sidekick for someone looking for a steadfast companion. Maggie is a young, active dog who needs daily activity and entertainment, and would enjoy a playmate in her new family. She’s being fostered with both a small and large dog, and likes to snuggle with her pack. She’s more timid than confident, so she may be a better fit for calmer, older kids, and would probably enjoy more human companions to love! She’s crate trained and potty trained, but needs work on her leash skills. She’s a country girl, so leash walking is new to her and she’s still adjusting to the sights and sounds of a more urban life. To find out more about adopting Maggie, please visit here.

Ashley is a big and beautiful girl who is a great adoption age. At 9 years old, she is mature, but in her prime. She’s a very independent kind of gal, so if you have to go to work (to earn extra treats for her, of course), she will be fine until she welcomes you home. Ashley has been known to tell you what’s on her mind, and even to give a few gentle head butts for attention. So, why not come to meet Miss Ashley and let her tell you why she might be just the cat for you.  To learn more about her, check out her profile and contact the Humane Rescue Alliance.

Hi everyone, Lady Bug here. Like the bug I’m named after, I’m a little on the rounder side, but who cares – there’s just more of me to love. I like to show off my belly to anyone who will pay attention, ‘cuz usually that means I’ll get belly rubs, and those are my favorite. At only 2.5 years old, I’m out of the puppy phase, but still have plenty of energy, and can’t wait to put it to good use in my new home! I hope my forever family takes me to fun places, to meet new people, and see the world! I love stuffed toys however they do not last too long I love them that much. I love playing with other dogs and playing fetch although I really don’t think I have to give the toys back. I have been doing great in the house and when everyone is settling in I calm down and have fun chewing on a bone or sleeping on my bed. When we go for walks I know not to pull and do well meeting people. I am very excited to find my forever home so to meet me/learn more, email my foster! [email protected].  You can also learn more by contacting the Humane Rescue Alliance.
