Well yesterday’s poll of where we are from was super successful. I’m psyched that over 500 people responded.  Although, I regret leaving Park View out of the choices that was a mistake. So I’m quite curious about this question and I’m sure you are too. How old are you?

A reader suggested I integrate some polls into PoP so I thought I’d give it a go. This is really a test poll and I’m not sure how many answers will be recorded but let’s see what happens. Obviously PoP started out focusing on Petworth but today coverage has expanded to include many other neighborhoods. I thought I’d take a quick poll to see where folks are from. Thanks.

The rentals are a bit tardy this week so I thought I’d put up an interesting good deal or not house. By the by, how often would you like to see the good deal or not feature? As it is once a week, twice a week, three times a week or daily?

Back to the matter at hand. This house may be familiar to some because it has the crazy rock garden and tschotkes. The flier says 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths and 2 half baths. It is located at 3400 Holmead Place around the corner from the Tivoli. Another funny thing about the flier is that it has stapled to it an ad for the Allegro being built at Newton and 14th and an ad for the Kenyon Square Condos. The price has dropped from $890,000 to $829,000. So good deal or not? Rock garden after the jump. (more…)

A reader suggested creating: “a forum for trading/selling/bartering items in the neighborhood. Similar to craigslist but just local. Craigslist is great until you see you have to drive to say Leesburg to get something that might end up costing less at the store with the rising gas prices.” I thought it was a great idea and added it to the Forum section. By the by if you ever have trouble with the Forum just email me directly and I’ll make sure you can access it. Unfortunately you have to register separately to use the forum in order to keep out spammers. Following are some new topics from the new section:

Anyone want some free tiles?

Free semi working Craftsman lawnmower.

Free matching head and foot board for a queen sized bed.

A commenter wrote the following about yesterday’s post on Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton:

““One cool Congresswoman”? Please. She’s a disgrace. Let’s stick to the hipster blogging and leave political commentary to those who know something about it.”

Well, sir or madam if you look at the photo of Congresswoman Norton her arms are crossed and she is obviously chilly. Thus the title, “One Cool Congresswoman” was merely referring to the fact that she was feeling cool. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

“Let’s stick to the hipster blogging”. Well, I’ve been waiting a year and a half to be called a hipster blogger and I can only respond thank you. For the past year and a half I’ve been wearing exclusively puma hoodies in winter and summer, riding a 10 speed bike with only one working gear, reading books that I don’t understand and listening to terribly obscure music that I don’t even enjoy. Until today I thought it was all for naught. So thank you dear sir or madam for recognizing who I really am. I tip my camouflage hat to you.

“Leave political commentary to those that know something about it”. I knew when I asked the Congresswoman what neighborhood she lived in that I’d have to deal with accusations like this one. When I wrote that the Congresswoman grew up on Kenyon Street I nearly deleted the entire post. For I suspected that I’d be labeled a wannabe political hack. And there is nothing that upsets an aspiring hipster more than being labeled a wannabe political hack. But damn it, sometimes you can’t sit on the truth even if it is as controversial as reporting that the Congresswoman currently lives on Capitol Hill. I, sir or madam, would not have been able to live with myself. Please forgive the brief reply but I’m late for a show at the Rock and Roll Hotel.
