This guy was actually awesome. He was busting the chops of the proprietor of Dos Gringos in a very friendly and joking manner. He seemed to know everyone. This to me seems to be the ideal of an MPD patrolman. We need MPD guys like this guy in all of our neighborhoods.
Nature. Spray painted. Hmm. It’s thought provoking, I’ll give ’em that.
It is one of my all time favorites. You know, it’s the one about World War II in Shanghai with John Malkovich and a young Christian Bale. Anyway there is one scene when they are in an internment camp and Christian Bale’s character visits the infirmary. At the infirmary he realizes that they put a mosquito netting around a patient, not to keep out mosquitos, but to signify when a patient is about to die. The mosquito netting has no practical function other than a psychological one.
That is what these police flood lights remind me of. A reader wrote in today to tell me about a murder in an alley near Princeton St. as reported by NBC news. And lo and behold tonight there was a big spot light up. Now what is the purpose here, the guy has already been killed. I know with some gang violence the spotlights aim to deter revenge attacks. Maybe that is why they used it here. But still does this light make anyone feel better and/or safer? All I could see was a giant mosquito netting.

I had really been looking forward to checking out the 9th and U St. Flea Market…little did I know. The photo above almost cost me a serious ass kicking. I’m kind of like Vinny Testaverde, one more ass kicking and it will do me some serious permanent damage. So even though that is not the greatest picture you have to appreciate it just a little bit given the circumstances. You see when I tried to take the above picture the proprietor of the stand beneath it pretty much freaked out. And her very large friend advised me not to take any photos. After some serious pleading – alright fine – crying, I promised only to capture the sign and not any of her merchandise for sale. So please ignore the jackets in the picture for my own safety. Thanks to Susan for sending me this phenomenal photo. Sadly, the truck drove for the now defunct Wings n Things restaurant that was located on Kennedy and Georgia. Thankfully this truck will now be memorialized and God willing placed on a t-shirt one day. In case you can’t read it, it says:
“A Chicken Ain’t Nuthin’ But a Chickens Butt…But the Wings the Thing!”
Yeah, that’s a pistol crossbow. Yeah it comes with metal “arrows”. Yeah, that’s a good idea.
I just found it very cool that someone was looking to expand their book club and has advertised on the CH Coffee bulletin board. That’s a good touch that you probably wouldn’t get at Starbucks…
Not that I am complaining… Thanks to all for making the PoP launch party an awesome time. It was great to meet so many people from the neighborhood. My head is still a bit fuzzy so you’ll get your regularly scheduled posts later in the day. In the meantime enjoy some of the photos from last night’s party.
