Does anyone recognize what it is?

Now take it easy everyone. This is the last entry. The next competition coming up will be the scavenger hunt in early October.
“My roommate Rachel is one of my best friends. Our brains are from the same jar and we share many thoughts, even being able to sometimes control others with the power of our combined minds. We only met last year but it feels like we’ve always been friends. Rachel is one of the most caring, loving and sweet people I know. She is one of those few people about whom one could honestly say loves others unconditionally. Rachel is an extremely calm presence in my life and makes me feel like less of a spaz than I actually am. She takes good care of me, especially making sure I eat well. We share an odd sense of humor that has us laughing between 95-98% of the time (there is a records joke in there, and she knows it.) Our neighbors probably think we should be committed. Rachel is always there to offer her excellent advice and she is someone I constantly turn to. She’s encouraging when I’m down on myself, consoling when I’m having a tantrum or some other ridiculous thing, and she kills scary bugs. She has the patience of saint to live with me and to indulge the habits of who I think anyone would consider to be a difficult person. I’ve never had a better roommate and surely never will.”

“This is Mo. Mo is the coolest roommate in PoPville for more reasons than just her hair, though as many people know, her hair is the raddest on the block. It’s so rad, it has its own ego. The real reason she’s the coolest roommate ever is that she’s one of the most supportive, generous, and downright hilarious people I have ever met. She shows her supportiveness in many ways, such as sincerely and enthusiastically complimenting my cooking, even when said “cooking” involved heating the contents of a can/jar/box. On top of that, a day never goes by that she doesn’t tell me how great I am! (As a result, my ego nearly matches that of her hair.)
Mo is one of those folks who is very generous with her friends. Whether it is with her time and affections or more material things, she can not be accused of stinginess. She’s as likely to get a random present for someone when she’s out shopping as she is to buy for herself, and you never know when you’ll be surprised with a hug (an especially good remedy for bad days).
I’m struggling with how to properly contain her hilarity in text. She’s one of those
people with completely contagious laughter, and she spends most of her day laughing. As our brains were spawned in the same jar, we are able to transmit our many inside jokes with a mere glance in each other.
Due to her good humor and general charm, she is also an easy person to spend a lot of time with. She’ll happily nerd it out with me at nerdy conventions and conferences, laze on the couch playing video games, or head out to trivia at Nelly’s. We have a baby apartment which would be (more than) unpleasant with anyone else. It’s hard to imagine living without her!
All of this is true, and ought to be enough to win her coolest roommate alone. But something that I think will appeal to all people who have lived with others, and not just to me:
She always does the dishes.”

A slightly different take from previous entries…
“Ah, beautiful, well-balanced Andy. He cleans the bathroom and passes out it in.”

“I would like to nominate my roommate Liz for the coolest roommate competition because it just doesn’t get any cooler than her. Liz is all smiles all the time, even after a long day of work. There are a total of five girls in our Victorian row house in Columbia Heights that actually used to be a brothel (we even have chandeliers in our bedrooms) and Liz always comes home in a cheery mood gathering everyone together for some sort of fun activity in the evenings. During the work day, Liz keeps us entertained by sending all the roomies fun articles and blogs she has read, including a lot from PoP and fun celebrity gossip! She’s always keeping us up to date with what is hip and happening in the area and where we should be every night of the week! Liz’s real specialty, though, is making brownies and she does so quite often. At least once a week you are guaranteed to be seduced out of your bedroom by the wonderful odor of chocolate being baked by Liz with love and care. Since Liz grew up and went to college in California one of my favorite things about her is “showing her” new things in the Mid-Atlantic area. She is always enthusiastic and open for new experiences and we have a blast on our adventures.
Liz is officially the coolest roommate ever because of her fun, laid-back attitude, great personality, and constant ability to put smiles on the faces of everyone around her. “

“It’s been 11 years (wow) since I met my roommate Andrea when we were freshman environmental studies majors at the University of Maryland. Flash forward to 2007, and after several years in different cities (and sometimes different continents) we’ve found ourselves in the same city again – here are a few reasons why Andrea just might be the coolest roommate in all of PoPville:
We successfully shared a tiny dorm room our sophomore year in college – thankfully we’ve progressed since then to a 2BR apt in Mt. P!
She loves my cats despite their crazy antics (sometimes encouraging the craziness, actually), and takes care of them when I’m out of town.
I don’t know how I managed to find another half-Bolivian, environmentally and socially conscious roommate like myself but it’s cool that we have alot of that stuff in common (personality-wise we’re quite different though). Her other side is German, which makes for an interesting mix, let me tell you!
She’s CLEAN – (seriously, she steam vacuumed our carpets last weekend!) and a few weeks ago when we went through the most stressful move I’ve ever been through, I was REALLY glad to have her there to get through it together.
And last but not least, she’s just generally a fun, energetic person who keeps life interesting – whether she’s cooking up a spicy curry in the kitchen or mixing up a martini, out on a bike ride or discussing the latest current events (she has opinions and is not afraid to express them!) I suppose her downside is that she has a tendency to burn things (while cooking) — I’ve never heard of anyone else burning a boiled egg – lol!”

“I’m adding my roommate mike. we’ve known each other since 5th grade in Ohio. We were “Floyders” together in high school (short for pink floyed) and we even dated before we both came out! he moved back to DC after living in NYC for 15 years. He’s awesome. He’s helped us in so many ways. He helped us renovate our kitchen and rip up the heinous green turf on our front porch (see photo). He was our caterer when my partner finished her doctorate (see photo of catering in our new kitchen!). Mike is an all around awesome roommate. My friends often ask me where they can get a “mike” or can he help them with some things…the answer is, he’s ours!”

“My roommate Lynn is one of the nicest people I know in DC. She is always smiling and happy, even when she is helping out with mundane household chores like taking out the trash, washing dishes etc. Beyond being an awesome roommate, she is also a very good friend. We can hang out at happy hour just as easily as we can chill in the apt. and make it a movie night. But perhaps most importantly, Lynn is the coolest roommate because she puts up with me in the mornings when I am semi-awake (and usually not a morning person) and manages to make me smile everyday while walking to work.
Although she is moving out soon, I just wanted to let her know that I have appreciated all the times that we’ve stayed up late chit-chatting, and the many summer adventures that we’ve had in the city.”

There’s more than one Market in the East. On a recent Saturday afternoon, I ventured over to Florida Avenue to check out the Capital City Market. Roughly bounded by Florida Ave. NE on the South, 6th St. NE on the east, Penn St. NE on the north and the FL Ave. Metro on the west, the Market was originally located on the National Mall (somewhere near around Federal Triangle) and was relocated after World War I to make way for the Mall we’re all familiar with today. (more…)

Five MPD officers chilling outside the 7 Eleven. But it’s actually not fair of me because this was at the same time as the Ben’s Chili Bowl 50th Anniversary celebration. Did anyone check it last Friday?
Looks like it was pretty fun:

I also was excited to see the building next door open that will house the bar/lounge area.

Sadly, they were just selling t-shirts and other memorabilia.

I wonder when they’ll open, it looks like there’s still a bit of work to accomplish.
Oh yeah, did anyone check out the free concert at 9:30 club Sunday night?
