The Metropolitan Police Department recently signed the 30×30 pledge, which seeks to increase the recruitment, retention and promotion of women in policing. More specifically, the goal of the initiative is to increase the number of women in police recruit classes to 30% by 2030, and to ensure police agencies intentionally support, mentor and empower women to advance throughout their careers.

Currently, MPD’s sworn force is made up of 23% women, and more than 50% of the agency’s February recruit class were  women — all D.C. natives and former cadets.

To coincide with Women’s History Month in March, MPD signed the pledge and created a video and promotional campaign to highlight its participation. On March 18, the Department hosted a “Women in Law Enforcement ” themed Prospect Day — consisting of a panel of women at MPD who spoke about their careers and offered advice to women wanting to enter this field.

When asked about the pledge, MPD’s Chief Robert Contee said, “We are pledging to increase the number of female officers and continue to make MPD the most equitable agency for women in the law enforcement field.” To apply or learn more visit JOINMPD.DC.GOV.

Life’s complexities truly came to light during the last two years, making it difficult to spend time on the things that really matter.

Home maintenance can be frustrating and draining, but it doesn’t have to derail your week — that’s where BirdWatch swoops in.

Pass off that to-do list and let your expert BirdWatch concierge handle the heavy lifting. They’ll make the calls, send the vendor, and coordinate access — for anything. They’re just a tap away. You can hit “Send” on the way to grab your kiddos from school and then… relax. Have a more comprehensive project in mind or want recommendations to keep your investment in good shape? They can do that, too.

COAL + ICE, a project of Asia Society, is an immersive documentary photography exhibition that brings together the work of over 50 photographers from around the world to visualize the climate crisis.

A vibrant six-week programming series transforms the center of the exhibition into a stage for music, performance, panel discussions, art-making and more. This exhibition brings the environmental and human costs of climate change to life through images, videos and insightful events.

Co-curated by Magnum photographer Susan Meiselas and renowned exhibition designer Jeroen de Vries, COAL + ICE traces a photographic arc from deep within the coal mines to the melting glaciers of the greater Himalaya, and across the globe where rising sea levels and extreme weather events are wreaking havoc. Through intimate portraits and vast altered landscapes, these photographs document our relationship to fossil fuels and the consequences triggered by this continued reliance.
