Real Estate Fresh Finds is a weekly selection of newly-listed properties in the District, brought to you by RLAH Real Estate.

Featured Property of the Week: 2443 Monroe Street NE

“Perched upon its own hill sits this five-bedroom and two-and-a-half bath Dutch Colonial Revival. When the current owners bought the property they cherished the character and dedicated a tremendous amount of time and love to bringing out its beauty and tastefully adding some modern touches. For the purist, it still features many nods to the past like original hardwood floors, wood trim throughout the home, slate roof, solid core doors, copper gutters/downspouts, many original art deco-era light fixtures and porcelain bathroom fixtures. There are countless tasteful updates throughout the home with 3-zone central air, 2-zone radiant heating (96 pct efficiency Bosch combo boiler/hot water heater), smart things-compatible switches/dimmers, 200A electric panel, french drains in the basement, spray foam insulation and much more. One area of pride is the kitchen with newer appliances, Virginia soapstone countertops, fully custom handmade cabinets, a double oven and touchless faucets. If the space on the main two levels isn’t enough, you have three other great options. First is to head down to the fully finished basement with a large bedroom and new bathroom featuring Kohler fixtures, heated floors and custom concrete countertop. The second is to grab your imagination and head to the attic which is ready for all your HGTV renovation ideas. It has the original heart of pine flooring, access to plumbing stack, and the A/C system is already zoned for convenience. Your third option is to head outside to the vast outdoor space that is perfect for gardening. You can either flex your own green thumb or enjoy the established landscaping including plum trees, apple trees, quince, peonies, blueberries, azaleas, pomegranate trees, fig trees, crepe myrtle, perennial flowers and a hedge of wild roses.”

National Domestic Workers Alliance speakers at Well-Paid Maids picnic

Well-Paid Maids is all about paying its employees (not contractors!) living wages starting at $20 an hour. It also offers them comprehensive benefits like health coverage, 22 paid days off, employer-paid commuting and more.

But not all employers treat their employees so well.

In fact, domestic workers are the only group of workers excluded from the DC Human Rights Act. That means they’re not legally protected against sexual harassment and discrimination on the job.

To support the 47,000 domestic workers who live in the DMV area, join Well-Paid Maids in supporting a Domestic Workers Bill of Rights in D.C.

If you have any question whether inflation is real, just try buying a car.

The average price for a new car was $47,000 in January, 2022 which is 22% above pre-pandemic prices. The used car market is even crazier with average prices up 45% (no typo!) over the past year to over $26,000 this January. With continued semiconductor shortages, supply-chain challenges and global disruption from the war in Europe, things aren’t expected to get cheaper anytime soon.

All this means that you want to avoid being forced into that market. The best way to do that is to keep your car healthy. The good news is that there’s now a service that makes car maintenance and repair as easy as ordering groceries online.

New auto repair company CarCare To Go delivers trust, transparency and free valet pick-up from your home or office. See why clients give them an average 5.0 star rating.

And now CarCare To Go is offering an extraordinary deal for first time clients — oil changes for just $20.22. No catch. Synthetic or blend for any make or model car. Just enter coupon code FIRST20 when you book.

On Saturday, thousands of residents in the Dupont and Logan Circle neighborhoods opened their doors to find an odd gift waiting on their doorstep: a single roll of toilet paper.

Raising awareness in a creative way, local delivery service, The Rounds, dropped off thousands of rolls on their fleet of e-bikes across The District.

The Rounds is a zero waste delivery service of household essential items working to create a convenient, affordable and more sustainable way to shop. In addition to offering the basics like toilet paper, soap and cleaning items, they also work with local partners to offer door to door delivery of their goods.

The Rounds’ members can get weekly refills of freshly baked bread from Seylou Bakery, locally roasted coffee from Compass Coffee and their morning bagels from Bethesda Bagels. Unlike your typical delivery service, The Rounds sources products in bulk and delivers items in reusable packaging. Plus, they pick up your empty containers to be cleaned and reused, like a modern day milkman.

This fast growing startup has been on the move both in the District and across the East Coast. After launching in D.C. in August, they just expanded into their third market, Miami, this month.

Test out a new way to get your essentials and get $20 off with code POPVILLE.
