Here another couple of examples of some pop ups that I think look pretty good. Do you like the one on the left or the right better?

Can someone recommend a CSA that delivers to Petworth? Ed. note: I, sadly, have no idea what a CSA is.
Furnished room for rent (female preferred) in Petworth.
The market is located right on the corner of 14th and U and is open from 9am to 1pm. The note from Robin on the listserv says:
“Strawberries, Asparagus, Flowers, greens, plants and much more!
Yes, we have Strawberries already!
New producer Dana Boyle started picking her strawberries (Chandlers and Sweet Charleys)
last week. The days have been hot and dry so she tells me they are good and sweet.
Yum. She is from the Northern Neck, Virginia where strawberries ripen a few weeks before
they do around DC so we can start the strawberry season early at U Street! More details after the jump. (more…)

The entrant writes: “I tried to make the frogs sort of represent what I would imagine you to be as a frog walking around Petworth and the surrounding area befriending everyone.” If you vote for this one let me know if you prefer it in black and white or in color? Check out another version after the jump. (more…)

The owner of this awesome kitchen writes: “Our contractor works on his own. He is John Hellmandollar, and we turn to him every time we need any work completed we can (more…)

I don’t know about you, but for me one of the best part about a house is the land that surrounds it. Give me front yards, back yards, side yards, or even just scenic alleyways and a home is created. Well, if you’re anything like me than maybe this is the one for you. The backyard patio looks like the perfect place to plant an herb garden or kick back with a good book.
$2750 for a three bedroom townhome walking distance from the Columbia Heights and Petworth metro stations (Warder at Kenyon). Looks like it’s been renovated–kitchen appliances are “updated.” However, it’s technically a two bedroom, unless someone doesn’t mind sleeping in the den. (Small rooms generally aren’t a problem for the financially-strapped, but it does help to be able to fit at least your bed and a dresser in there. Although perhaps the difference between a bedroom and a den isn’t so much space as the presence of closets.)
Other perks: a bathroom complete with a jacuzzi (and imported floors–didn’t realize tiles were a hot global commodity). Also, look at the shower. Is that a glass block window on the shower wall? How badly do I wish I had something like that! I once lived in a house that had a window on the shower wall–but a regular window with that see-through quality windows are apt to have. But here’s the best part: it looked directly into the neighbors shower, which had it’s own oddly placed window. Thank god ours came with blinds… More rentals after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending me this Washington Post link about the DC Council’s initial passage of the Noise Control Act. I think it still has a few more hurdles to cover before it is official though. The reader was very pleased with the initial passage, saying the act: “which imposes reasonable noise levels in residential neighborhoods (like Petworth) while still allowing higher volume, amplified expressions in the downtown core. It appears to be a win for those of us who feel it is our right not to be bombarded with unwanted outside noise while preserving the right of freedom of expression.” It may be interesting to note that Ward 4 Councilmember, Muriel Bowser, was strongly opposed to the act. According to the Post article she believes the noise problem is a “H Street problem” and not a citywide problem. I haven’t followed the issue too closely but my initial impression is that I would support the act. But then again freedom of speech is kind of important too. This is a tough one.
So the Friday question of the day is – do you support the passage of a citywide noise control protection act?

This is the building at 3910 Georgia Ave next to the Wendys. This sign says it seeks to become a medical facility with other related retail and housing above it. Alright. Although it also says there will be 120 off street parking spots, that seems like a lot, yeah? (more…)

Can you see the wood guy in the background there? I’m fairly certain it will be featured in an upcoming M. Night Shyamalan film. Yikes, I can’t even look at the photo. Yeah, I’m not very tough at all.
