A little help. Here is one from Petworth. And here is one from Arkansas and 16th. I know I’ve seen a number of others as well that I can’t find in the archives. I wonder how many of these sculptures there are around the city. The one pictured above is the smallest one I’ve seen. They are absolutely unbelievable though. I’d love to get one for PoP headquarters…

This is The Lofts at Meridian Hill located at 2311 15th Street. I know this isn’t a super new building but it’s relatively new and the windows jutting out really struck me. I going to go with a thumbs up. What do you guys think?

I keep finding new (to me) ones. This one I thought was funny because it is called ‘Serenity’. But if you look closely the sculpture has been beat to hell. I know the Venus de Milo is also a bit beat up and people find tremendous beauty in it but this sculpture doesn’t convey serenity to me. Do you think ‘Serenity’ is an apt name for this memorial to Lieutenant Commander William Henry Schevtze?

I stopped in the other night and had the pleasure of meeting store owner Barbara Cameron. She is a Columbia Heights resident, and married to the Dentist downstairs. Together they spend lots of time travelling the world to keep Boveda stocked with all sorts of great stuff. They often travel to places where they have no connections and just network with local artists and communities to see what they can find. A visit to her store shows that they usually have pretty good luck; silver jewelry from the Hill Tribes in Thailand, pottery from Morroco, and for the entomologist – some cool butterfly and insect displays from Ecuador. I even found a sweet looking frog that kind of looks like a PoP mascot!

Her son (who helps out in the store when home from college) recently started a project that provides shoes to children in impoverished countries. You can find out more about that here: http://www.walkinmyshoesglobalproject.com/home. They accept donations in the store, so if you have kids shoes – bring them by! Even if you don’t have shoes to deliver…this place is well worth a visit, and there’s a sale going on right now 20 – 30% off most items in the store! More photos after the jump. (more…)

This is a very interesting house located at 3648 13th Street. The flier says:

“Total renovation of semi-detached row house to Mediterranean-style contemporary building with two fully seperate units and over 2,300 square feet. Ultra high-end finishes adorn this multi unit property with hard to find European tile with steel accents, steel fencing and steps, 2 granite kitchens with top of the line features. The self contained luxury apartment has front and back entrances 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, washer dryer, CAC. The upper unit is spacious with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, gas fireplace, Jacuzzi, walk in closet…1 car parking available under rear deck.”

I couldn’t find any pictures from inside but it sounds pretty nice. What interests me the most about this house is the two units. So I guess you buy the whole house and can rent out one of the units. How much do you think you could rent the 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom for? Anyway, it makes figuring out the price a bit more interesting. The price is $699,000. So good deal or not considering it is broken into two units?

Sometimes I worry about our nation’s future.
