Looks like we’re moving towards the green variety.

Looks like we’re moving towards the green variety.

Those characters are phenomenal.

I like how this one is set back from the building to the left. I also think the mini balcony is pretty cool.

This one good looking building. Sadly I can’t remember where I took the photo. Is this on R Street? Anyone recognize the building? Thumbs up or down?

Anyone recognize the street?

“This is Mo. Mo is the coolest roommate in PoPville for more reasons than just her hair, though as many people know, her hair is the raddest on the block. It’s so rad, it has its own ego. The real reason she’s the coolest roommate ever is that she’s one of the most supportive, generous, and downright hilarious people I have ever met. She shows her supportiveness in many ways, such as sincerely and enthusiastically complimenting my cooking, even when said “cooking” involved heating the contents of a can/jar/box. On top of that, a day never goes by that she doesn’t tell me how great I am! (As a result, my ego nearly matches that of her hair.)
Mo is one of those folks who is very generous with her friends. Whether it is with her time and affections or more material things, she can not be accused of stinginess. She’s as likely to get a random present for someone when she’s out shopping as she is to buy for herself, and you never know when you’ll be surprised with a hug (an especially good remedy for bad days).
I’m struggling with how to properly contain her hilarity in text. She’s one of those
people with completely contagious laughter, and she spends most of her day laughing. As our brains were spawned in the same jar, we are able to transmit our many inside jokes with a mere glance in each other.
Due to her good humor and general charm, she is also an easy person to spend a lot of time with. She’ll happily nerd it out with me at nerdy conventions and conferences, laze on the couch playing video games, or head out to trivia at Nelly’s. We have a baby apartment which would be (more than) unpleasant with anyone else. It’s hard to imagine living without her!
All of this is true, and ought to be enough to win her coolest roommate alone. But something that I think will appeal to all people who have lived with others, and not just to me:
She always does the dishes.”

The flier for this two unit condo conversion at 3660 New Hampshire Ave. says:
“Brand new conversion near Park Place dev! 2 units available-both 2BR/2BA, parking, great rear decks/patio. Modern kitchens-granite cntrs, maple cabs, SS appliances, new hdwds. Beautiful slate baths, spacious closets, custom shelves. Great size BRs with plenty of light. Less than 1 block to Petworth metro and steps to Columbia Heights dev: Target, etc!”
You can find more info and photos here.
I normally don’t like when the rowhouses are converted into condos but this one was pretty cool. Both units had two levels and the bathrooms were quite nice. I also think the location is pretty good. The first unit is $449,900 and the second unit is $499,900 (condo fees are $274). So, good deal or not? But I’m also interested to hear what you think about the conversion. Like I said, I thought this one looked pretty good.

November of last year I wrote about 14th Street becoming a fashion hub. But I just noticed that it appears Pop has closed. Can anyone confirm this? Anyone know the story? Do you think this section of 14th Street in Shaw will be able to support clothing boutiques?

“Here are some shots of our modest kitchen and half-bath remodel – I think we got a lot done (complete gut and remodel of a kitchen and bath) for what we spent ($18K). We are fond of the galley kitchen (and had a small budget), so we never intended to tear down any walls. We ripped up 4 layers of flooring (which incidentally gave us about 3″ of extra ceiling height), stripped many layers of wallpaper [4] and trim paint [9!], and upgraded the electrical; replaced the cabinets, the countertops, all the appliances, sinks, faucets, and added undercabinet lights. We did find an old window that had been tiled over, so opening that up gave us nice light; and we refinished the original pine floor. I have included shots of the half-bath, which was added in the pantry years ago (and covered in the same beige tile that was used throughout our entire house – foyer and all). We had to gut the bathroom as well because there wasn’t a lick of insulation in the walls and it would drop to 40 degrees in the winter. It is an odd place for a bathroom, but I have grown to love being able to sit on the toilet and watch my pots boiling over on the stove. We also don’t normally leave the bathroom door hanging open like that, doesn’t seem sanitary.”
I think it looks great. Send photos of your renovations to [email protected]. Lots more photos including before after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending in the photo. The reader writes:
“This is the alley between Irving and Kenyon and 13th and 14th. WASA put in a new storm drain when the alley was redone (it really needed redoing) but I guess the drain ain’t quite up to a storm like this.”
That’s insane. Up in Petworth we pretty much got through unscathed. Although I heard some people had some flooding in their basements.
Any damage in your neighborhoods?
