Thanks again to DC realtor Kevin Wood for compiling this list of home/condo sales for zip codes – 20011, 20010, 20009 and 20001. Kevin notes: “You might want to let readers know that if they know of a property that has sold but is not in the list, to ask me and I can look it up for them. Agents manually enter the “sold” information and it sometimes takes them several days, so there could be things that sold yesterday, for instance, that are still listed as being “under contract” and thus not in my list.”

September Sales

“Hey PoP – a question from a long-time reader and occasional commenter that I was hoping your other readers might be able to help answer. There’s a house on my block that has been seemingly abandoned for about a year or so. Before that, the owner(s) did a fairly significant amount of work both inside and out. They seemed to finish but there has been no activity whatsoever at the house since then. The yard is completely overgrown, full of trash and rats, weeds are growing onto the sidewalk, a now-soaked and rotting phonebook has been sitting on the porch for months, and pigeons were nesting above the front door (now the nest is in pieces on the porch directly in front of the door, making it obvious no one has been in or out in a long, long time). I’ve called DCRA twice about listing it as a vacant property and getting the eyesore of a yard cleaned up. It’s been about 3 months since the first time I called and nothing has happened. Aren’t they supposed to send someone out to cut the grass, at least, and then bill/fine the owner?

Frankly, I don’t have a whole lot of faith in my ANC rep as he hasn’t been too helpful or useful in the past, but I could contact him. Do you or your readers have any other suggestions?”

We addressed a very similar question back in June. Check all the advice here.

It makes me think of the Simpson’s episodes when Homer is tripping. I dig it the most.

From a reader:

“I wonder if you would be willing to post some information about this great fundraising auction for Street Sense that just happens to be the same night as the VP debate. Tons of folks are planning to watch the debates, I know, but the auction starts at 7, so people could swing by on their way to watching the debate and place a few bids. We’ll let them know if their bids carry the day. It is a great cause, and the support would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been telling friends that if they attend and watch the debate later, they can consider their DVR fees to be a benevolent expense.

The event is in our neighborhood at the Josephine Butler Park Center, just across from Meridian Hill / Malcolm X Park.”

Sadly/happily I’ll be attending the Jenny Lewis concert at the 6th and I Synagogue but if you are looking for a spot to watch the VP debate – in addition to Red Derby and Red Rocks you can also catch it at Haydee’s in Mt. Pleasant. Mt. P ANCs will also be present. More details about the Haydee’s event after the jump. (more…)

Anyone recognize where this one is from? It’s location surprised me when I first spotted it.

In addition to be a cool old door you can see that there is some sweet stained glass and brick work as well.

Here’s another super cool one just off of Logan circle. I imagine it was a mansion back in the day but today is split up into condos. Pretty amazing though, yeah?

This was interesting protest sign. Not sure it’s helping that much if it is dated June 2007. So I guess now’s a good time to ask who’s the best company to use for homeowners or renters insurance? Has anyone ever had to claim their insurance? When my water pipe burst my insurance (All State) told me it wasn’t worth it to make a claim because the damage wasn’t that extensive. Hopefully you haven’t had to but if you have had to use a claim – how was your experience?
