Well, I’m still in a pretty good mood from the Obama victory (despite what you’ll read below).  So it got me thinking about times when I’ve been super happy.  Then I started thinking about great gifts I’ve received in my life and I was trying to think about the gift that made me happiest.  And I thought damn, that’d be a good FQOTD.  Ed. Note: Yes, I’ve had a few beers.  So I’ve been lucky enough to have received lots of great gifts in my life.  Some of the simplest have made me super happy like mix cds.  But when it comes down to the gift that just took me over the top – it was 1983 or 84 and my brother and I got the Atari 2600 for Hanukkah.  Holy shit, I could have gotten a million dollars and wouldn’t have been as happy.

So the FQOTD is – what is the greatest gift you’ve ever received or what was the singular most joyous moment in your life so far?

This building is located at 1541 14th Street and used to house the international book store. I was surprised to see some random art exhibited there. I think it’s a pretty cool idea.  I remember one of the buildings a little further south on 14th Street had a video art display for a while before the building was completely renovated.

Sent from a reader:

“So there was a stabbing like 3 houses down from my house at 11th and Otis tonight. My roommates and I were sitting in our front room when it happened and the cops think it might turn out to be a homicide…

Part of what makes me really sad about this is that there are kids that live right near that intersection. Like right abutting the intersection, the coolest kid in Columbia Heights lives there and I hate to think of her being scared because of this happening. When I was a kid living in a pretty good neighborhood, someone broke into my dad’s car in our drive way. Anyway, it really scared me… I can’t imagine what it does to a kid to know that someone was stabbed (and most likely killed) right there.”

I was feeling such joy from the Obama victory and now I’ve crashed back down to earth. This is why I think it is so important to donate or volunteer to some of these organizations.

From underdog:

“After getting rid of the Pilgrims and their damn turkey, Jack couldn’t help but smile as he set his gaze on Santa. He knew that there was room for only one holiday. His only problem, who the hell was the kid?”

Runner up from SKim:

“This week on “Behind the Holiday” – Because of vastly different styles and ideologies, the Jesus and the Winter Boys band broke up. Some say that Jesus’ addiction to communal wine and controlling parents/managers were responsible. Others that the inequitable distrubution of their huge contract with Hallmark created bitterness. Surprisingly, they all moved forward and had enormously famous solo careers.”

This is going to be a beaut. There have been some serious renovations going on. More photos after the jump. (more…)
