Just messing with us…

Wow. I was walking by 21st and M around 1pm on Saturday when I saw the biggest line I’ve ever seen in DC (except for the inauguration of course). For a moment I wondered if I had died and gone to heaven. It turned out it was auditions for America’s Next Top Model reality show. My unscientific count put the numbers into the thousands. The line stretched double all the way around the block.
These folks were waiting since 8:45 am and still had a long ways to go.

I couldn’t help but feel a bit bad for all these folks. There was quite a buzz of optimism and I can only imagine perhaps a handful were picked.
Some more photos after the jump. (more…)

“Hello PoP,
Have you ever done a post on that weird blue house?
It’s the only one in the area I’ve seen with a barbed wire prison motif.”
It’s funny I have noticed this house at the corner of Monroe and Holmead. I’ve never seen barbed wire around a residential house before. Sometimes I believe it’s better if I don’t think too deeply on these matters…

I spotted this one outside the Brazilian Embassy. This is a tribute to Brazil’s contribution to flight. I have to admit, I selected it based exclusively on the hat.

Lots of folks were out this weekend enjoying the phenomenal weather. These folks were enjoying the patio at Wonderland.
A perfect weekend for a good book. I also liked how the dog was sitting on the bench.

A little outdoor guitar:

Some basketball:

How’d you enjoy the weather?

These Circular ones are phenomenal.

Here’s a beauty from Florida Ave near the Hinkley Hilton. It’s got some great details. I was particularly psyched about the dope porch light given my new infatuation… Close ups after the jump. (more…)

Please join West Potomac RFC this Saturday after our annual Spring Thaw Tournament as we kick off the 2009 season and raise money for Men Against Breast Cancer (MABC).
Where: Hamilton’s Bar & Grill – 233 2nd Street NW, Washington, DC
When: Saturday, March 7 from 7:00 – close
What: $5 donation to MABC gets you $1 PBR cans, give-aways, and other specials throughout the evening
Who: West Potomac and our guests from Quantico RFC, Winchester RFC, and Washington RFC
Why: Just about every rugger we know has a mom, sister, daughter, girlfriend, or wife that has supported his exploits on the pitch (or forgiven his antics at the drink-up). Helping MABC is just a small way to say “thank you” to the women in our lives.
About MABC
Steve Peck and Marc Heyison co-founded Men Against Breast Cancer (MABC), the first national non-profit organization to provide targeted support services to educate and empower men to be effective caregivers when breast cancer strikes a female loved one; as well as, target and mobilize men to be active participants in the fight against breast cancer. Continues after the jump. (more…)

This is a very cool building at 1333 14th Street, NW (not far too far south from P Street). Looks like it might have been a firehouse or some other municipal building back in the day. I was able to ask one of the construction workers what the building would become. He said it is going to become office space likely with a tenant that does IT services or something like that.

This one is located at 2713 Ontario Road, NW in Adams Morgan. We once spoke about it way back in the day. But I was stunned to see that it is still for sale. So I checked out some photos on redfin and it doesn’t look bad at all inside. So my question is – can a pop up look so bad from the outside that you’ll have an extra tough time selling? Or do you simply think they are asking too much ($569,999 for a 2 bed 2 bath 2 level condo)?
