We looked at some renderings of other libraries last week. A reader sends news of a meeting Monday night at 6:30pm. The reader writes:

“Monday, May 4, 2009, DC Public Library leadership will be presenting the latest design iterations (still a work in progress) and open a broad discussion about many issues surrounding the Ward One Library project in Mount Pleasant. The Mount Pleasant Library is the only library serving all of Ward One.

The Ward One Library Coalition encourages all to attend to make sure you are kept involved in this project and that your voice is heard. For most of the design phase, DCPL has not involved the community, ANC Commissioners, and other residents in the design process.

* More recently, they are opening up the dialog with due pressure from the people. DCPL finally put up design images on their website today >>

Let’s continue to make sure we have see our government agencies respond directly to our concerns and collaboratively work on such important civic projects as central as our library. Please help let others know.

Thanks to a reader for the heads up:

“I noticed this morning that the old furniture/home décor building next to Wendy’s on Ga. Ave. is finally getting razed. Most of the back of the
building was down today.”

Petworth News also relays news of an event with the mayor their Monday morning. It says:

“…the District and its development partners will transform the site into Georgia Commons – a facility to feature new housing units and a new health clinic.”

This was at the corner of 11th and Florida. When I was a few blocks away I saw a spot that offered prayers for 5 bucks and I was like, “damn I’m not going to be able to beat that.” So I paid my 5 bucks and prayed that it would stop raining, then I saw this sign. And then it rained all day Sunday, rough weekend.

Even in the rain! Mad props to anyone who knows what street this is…

What’s the building in the background, the basilica?

I don’t know if it’s the glue but the little window bars looks like a face to me…

This is a super cool one. I dig the Med. style roof and the stone reminds me of house from 1700s.

From a reader:

“I am writing to ask if you would mind mentioning on your blog that a dog in foster care on behalf of the Washington Animal Rescue League is missing. Berdina is a brindle/gray/white pit bull mix who is VERY friendly and was last seen in the area of Longfellow and Blair Streets, NW on April 21. The league’s staff and volunteers have been looking for her and posting fliers, but with no luck so far. She weighs about 50 pounds and was last seen wearing a red, white, and blue “Obama” collar with a red rabies tag. We’re really worried about her. Anything you could do to help us get the word out would be very much appreciated. I have attached a picture of Berdina. She’s a sweet girl! Anyone with information can call Mary at WARL (202-375-7755).”

Thanks to Councilmember Bowser for the update:

“At about 10:45 pm (Friday night) a dark colored vehicle drove past a group of young men walking at the intersection of 7th St. and Hamilton St., NW. Someone inside the vehicle shot at the group walking, striking one of the individuals in the group in the groin area. The injured subject was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call 1-888-919-CRIME. Officers continue to proactively patrol this area.

Lt. James A. Cullen”

Update:  Stabbing in North Country (Received Sunday 7:08 pm)

“MPD reports a confirmed stabbing of an adult male at 840 Crittenden ST NW. The Victim is DOA and the road closure is 800 blk of Crittenden ST NW.”

In case people were wondering what was going on Friday afternoon a reader says – “folks were marching on May Day for immigrants rights/immigration reform.”
