I thought I’d round out the week with a couple more cool buildings I spotted around downtown. The one above at 1100 New York Avenue is one of my favorites. What year do you think it was built?

This one is from 950 H Street, NW that I thought was super cool because the glass part sticks out which kinda reminded me of a big sail. Dig it?

“I am putting this on at the Pug to benefit DC Habitat for Humanity, who are building new homes for the working poor in NE ask we speak. It’s a great cause and your sites could really help us with some exposure.”

“Location, Location, Location! Community reflect pride of ownership. Very stable Columbia Heights neighborhood. This three level homes is perfect for the first time home buyer including HPAP program participants. Close to public transportation, Howard University School and Hospital.”

More info and photos found here.

This looks like a home that lots of my friends live in. It is a classic rowhome not completely pimped out but very nice. But for the fact that there is only 1 bathroom I think this sounds pretty good at $350,000. Sound reasonable to you?

For those that just want some Friday fun the condo above is a 2 bed 2.5 bathroom located at 1229 10th St, NW. There is a sweet virtual tour here. It’s asking price is $669,000.

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. Anything good happen this week?

A reader sent this renderings from a few libraries around town. I’m sorry there are so small but that was the largest size I could get. Above is what the Petworth Library is proposed to look like after extensive renovations. The project is slated to be completed in Fall 2009, though that seems highly ambitious. The libraries below are supposed to be open to the public by Spring 2010. Which one do you like best?

This week’s FQoTD is gonna be of the purely random variety. I happened to be at a conference earlier this week near American University. I got a Masters in International Affairs at AU and it got me thinking. Obviously as an aspiring full time blogger my graduate degree is not going to be too useful. Even for my “regular” jobs I think learned more from internships and my own reading than I did from class work. Don’t get me wrong I had some great professors, took some interesting classes, met great folks but, as you know, grad school ain’t cheap.

A few of my friends are lawyers who hated their law jobs and are now very content working in different capacities. Many of my younger colleagues are thinking of going to grad school and I’ve been wondering if it’s really worth it. I mean if you know you want to practice law or become a doctor then of course it makes sense. But I’m wondering about your experiences. Do you think your graduate degree was worth the money? Has it helped you in your career?

Listings: Here are the listings from 2006 (first) and the most recent one. Unfortunately, the virtual tour is no longer active from the first listing so you can’t see the “before” pics. To see the lovely renovation, click the camera icon at top left of the 2nd listing.

Back in 2006, I headed a team with Re/Max and one of my licensed assistants represented the (then) buyer (now seller) of this property when it was in need of a lot of TLC. It’s a big house with a large lot, great bones and an even better view. The (then) buyers employed one of my favorite financing tools…a rehab loan…and it looks like they put it to good use. In 2006, they paid $520,000. and got back $10,000. toward closing. I forget how many other offers there were at the time, but the list price was $500,000.

In any case, the PoP GDoN commenters were rough on this one, so some will probably be surprised that it actually sold over $800,000., but it did.
