A great example of an older glass door opening up onto a vestibule. And of course some great stained glass…

I love this house and have no problem showing it once a year! This is one of my favorites in Petworth. They’ve also got some great flowers going on.

When did the Public Bar open at 1214 18th Street, NW? Anyone check it out yet?

I’m always impressed by folks who go the extra effort for no personal gain. Someone found a bike and decided to post signs to find the owner. I think this is part of what makes a neighborhood/community great.

And finally a condo/apartment name that I like. Kinda reminds me of the simple brilliance of the Irving.

The photo above is what I think is new(ish) construction in Georgetown. I think the “tower” structure in the front looks good. You?

And here’s a green roof in an alley off 14th Street on a carriage house (not exactly a carriage house but I don’t what to call it…). Here’s a proper carriage house:

Personally I think green roofs are super cool:

I found this photo titled, Dumpster fire on Rock Creek Church from onemonthaway haunting. She writes:

“We were walking home from Columbia Heights to Petworth, when we saw a dumpster fire getting out of control and a bunch of excited kids. So, we called the fire department and hung out with the kids until the fire truck arrived.”

Submit your photos via email or to the PoPville flickr pool here.

This home is located at 422 Irving Street, NW:

The flier says:

“Spectacular Urban Oasis Awaits Your Summer Plans It’s not often one comes across a home like 422 Irving St. NW with three spacious sun drenched bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms in addition to the three spacious private balconies to hold those great gatherings throughout the year on. This home will strike you as an incredibly well designed space.”

More info and virtual tour found here. The house also has its own Web site here.

Just to get it out of the way, I think I’d call this neighborhood Pleasant Plains rather than Columbia Heights but technically Pleasant Plains falls within CH kinda like U Street falls within Shaw. But anyway, this looks like a nice reno. What do you think of the reno itself? Does $473,000 sound reasonable?

Tina visited The Greek Spot, located at 2017 11th Street, NW, back in Nov. ’08 and gave it pretty high reviews. I’d like to take another look though because I ate there the other night and I wasn’t blown away. I seem to recall that there is a gyro place somewhere between Farragut North and Dupont South on Connecticut Ave that is supposed to have incredible gyros. Anyone know what I’m talking about. Back to the Greek Spot, did they just have an off night or is it as good as Tina says?
