Long View Gallery has opened up its new space at 1234 9th Street, NW. It’s looking good!
The old space at 1302 9th Street, NW has become Shakti Yoga studio. Previously they were located at 7th and New York and in a quick conversation they said the new space should be open today!
Saw this disturbing incident on the MPD listserv from Commander Groomes:
“the below incident started off with an argument in the McDonalds… one of the parties then exited and went to wait for a bus in the 1900 blk of 16th ST when a blue Yukon pulled along side and pulled gun demanding his property…. the victim attempted to grab the gun and a fight ensued when the driver of the truck came out and struck the victim with a bat causing him injury – the truck sped off (we are following this lead) and victim taken to an area hospital…. we ask anyone who may have witnessed this attack to contact the 2d detectives or our tip line at 1 888 919 CRIME ..”
The original email:
“As I was coming home from church around 1:45 pm today (Sunday), I noticed a lot of police activity so I walked up to 16th and U. According to a couple of bystanders, a car had pulled up to the intersection, someone jumped out with a bat and began assaulting someone in the bus stop on the east side (our side) of 16th Street. For reasons I do not know, all the activity was over on the west side of 16th by the Starbucks. There was a fire engine and an ambulance which contained the victim (don’t know if victim was male or female). There were around 8 or 9 police cars. The bystanders told me that someone had gotten the car license number as it sped away. Finally, as I was walking home, about 10 minutes after I first noticed the activity (and clearly some additional but unknown amount of time after the assault had occurred), two police officers decided to go over to the bus stop and start to put up some crime scene tape. I asked if they had caught anyone and was told no and directed not to walk in their crime scene. I took another look over at what had grown to at least 12 police cars and was perplexed as to how all these police were helping to catch the perpetrators by milling around the scene talking.”
Maybe I just think of Tuxedos as the James Bond style but this sign cracked me up because from a distance it looked like everyone was wearing regular suits…
Just saw this article in Washingtonian Magazine:
“Details are sketchy, but numerous witnesses report that veteran feature editor Henry Allen punched out feature writer Manuel Roig-Franzia on Friday. The brawl took place in sight of Post executive editor Marcus Brauchli’s office. Brauchli rushed to the writhing bodies and helped pull Allen off.”

I’m not exactly sure when this new (to me) feature went up in the Adams Morgan Plaza at 18th and Columbia. I have to say it was a bit disappointing. Previously they’ve had a Festivus feature where people wrote hilarious notes. There was also a more general tell the President feature back in January. This one is asking folks specifically about health care and quite frankly is boring as hell. Most of the notes just say “I’d like health care” or something along those lines. Also, not sure I’d call this set up a blog…

There’s lots of nice original details in this home. I guess the main question I have – would it bother you to live on a really busy street like 14th? Does $500,000 sound reasonable for this 5 bed/3 bath (even though the kitchen looks like it needs some updating)?

Thanks to a reader for the heads up about a new restaurant coming to 4809 Georgia Ave, NW (right next door to Moroni & Bros. Pizza). So this section of Georgia will now have Moroni’s, Fusion and now this spot. I spoke to the owner of Moroni’s who thinks that the restaurant will be Ethiopian. The permit on the window said there will also be a lounge on the first floor. I think this’ll be great news for the block as the more foot traffic here the better for all the restaurants.
