“Dear PoP,

I will be moving into one of those narrow 2 bedroom rowhouses in Columbia Heights next month. It’s a typical 1-door-and-1-window-wide rowhouse with the staircase leading up from the front door and a long narrow room that is to be the dining room and living room. The house is about 14 feet wide.

I’m having a hard time trying to figure out how to make a living space with about 11-12 ft width and what seems over 22 ft length. Of course I’d like to have a space to relax with friends, a nice-sized flatscreen and sofa(s) and coffee table. I will be buying new furniture but need some inspiration… could you ask your readers to submit pictures/descriptions/suggestions of what they did with their skinny living rooms? I know there are a lot of narrow rowhouse residents out there!”

If any readers have photos or how to decorate a narrow row house please email them to princeofpetworth (at) gmail (dot) com.

Speaking of design I received an email today from a local Silver Spring resident that got her apartment featured on Apartment Therapy. It’s pretty sweet!

This is truly an insane video. Thanks to a reader for sending. Sadly NBC Washington writes:

“Zoo police cleared visitors from the area and the zoo’s vet staff went in, sedated the deer and took it to an animal hospital. Its injuries were too serious though and several hours later, after being examined by Zoo experts, the deer was put to sleep.”

Well this was an unpleasant scene on Woodley Road Sunday afternoon. I believe Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is in town. But man these are some vicious signs. As a Jew I can tell you they made me laugh because they were so absurd but I was really disturbed to see some children maybe 8 or 9 years old holding signs like this as well…

“Sending along some pics with the PoP shirt on my recent trip to Serbia and Hungary. One was taken in Budapest on the Buda side, at Fisherman’s Bastion; it’s a grey day but behind me you can make out the Danube River and Parliament on the Pest side (at night the building is lit up red white and green – both cheesy and yet spectacular at the same time). The other was taken in Belgrade in front of the Sveti Sava church, which has been under construction for over 100 years. The exterior is finally finished and the while the inside is still a work in progress, construction is proceeding at a fair pace (and wouldn’t you know it, they already have the souvenir shop open).”

“I saw this gate/doorway/opening at the Basilica today. I think it is the entrance to the confessional area but I’m not Catholic, so I’m not certain.”

Anyone know if this door goes to a confessional area or something else?

I thought this was a very unusual one as you can see it has like two kinds of borders one at the top and one around the door. I’ve never seen a style like this before. This is located off Mass Ave. on Rock Creek not too far from the Naval Observatory.

A number of readers inquired about a police presence last night around Spring Road. Here is what MPD has sent out around 10:30pm Friday night:

“At this time two adult male victims were shot in the 3500 block of Rock Creek Church Road. Both victims sustained non-life threatening injuries and are currently being treated at a local area hospital. The suspects in this case were last seen fleeing westbound on Spring Road. Anyone with information in reference to this crime please call 1-888-919-CRIME”

“Please join us this coming weekend as we welcome the long-awaited addition to the Culture Shop community: The Cedar Crossing Tavern and Wine Bar.

Under construction for over three months, the Tavern promises a venue for stimulating conversation, tantalizing cuisine, and a wide representation of your favorite beverages. In addition, The Culture Shop will continue to celebrate world-class shopping via a unique selection of eco-chic accessories, personal care items, clothing, housewares, foodstuff, and much more.

As a space-warming gift, we invite all our visitors to bring a can of food or make a financial donation this weekend (and each weekend throughout November) to be donated to a local charity – in support of our less fortunate neighbors.

Help us usher in the Season of Thanksgiving by celebrating all that is good and right in our global community.”

The Culture Shop is located at 341 Cedar Street, NW.
