Located at 1830 14th Street (located on the second floor) the Hunted House sells “vintage and modern furnishings”. The store is open Thurs and Fri: Noon – 7:00 PM and Sat and Sun: 11AM – 7:00 PM. Hunted House has been open for the past six months and has some pretty sweet furniture. This Swedish Teak Lounge Chair and Ottoman was going for $695. So if you’re looking to get me a Christmas gift you need look no further. Despite the fact that I really dislike the name of this business the goods for sale will make the trip well worth your while.

But at least they painted the brick below the pop up so it blends in a bit.

This one is on Girard St. I should expect to see one of these in my lifetime. This is the second one I’ve seen in just a few months. Absolutely brutal.

I had the opportunity to speak with one of the owners, Matt, tonight and I’ll be meeting with him for a longer discussion this weekend. But he did ease a lot of my concerns and I wanted to share them with you before I do a full post on the change of ownership next week.

  • It was very important to Josh and Rob [the sellers] that Temperance remain a Petworth neighborhood bar.
  • Temperance has a different kind of license so there will continue to be a low key feel. I.E. There are not likely to be dance parties breaking out with live music and DJs.
  • They are not trying to replicate Wonderland at Temperance Hall. In other words Temperance will not become a Wonderland annex or outpost.
  • They are still going to keep the same decor, feel and ambiance with a slight change to the layout which will include the addition of some more booth and upholstered seating.
  • The name Looking Glass Lounge is not set in stone although it will probably be renamed that at some point.
  • They understand the importance of the “neighborhood” bar and believe sincerely that the current patrons will be very happy in the future.

I also spoke with Dan Searing the general manager who assured me he will be staying on as general manager which I think says a lot about the new owners. Much more to come next week but I think any fears that Temperance will simply become a Wonderland II have been put to rest.

Located at 1722 14th Street, Big Monkey Comics is located on the second floor and seems pretty cool if you are into that sort of thing. The store has been open for 9 months or so and before that they were located in Georgetown. Most Saturdays they have some events going on. This past Saturday there were some folks playing Hero Clix which they described as Chess with super heroes.  I think this store would make the Simpson’s Comic Book Guy proud. More photos after the jump. (more…)

Looks like this may be another piece by Uzikee Nelson but I don’t know for certain. This one is located at the Josephine Butler Arts Center across from Malcolm X/Meridan Park. Not a bad looking house either. House photo after the jump. (more…)

I’m not sure if they are trying to burn the flowers with the aerosol but it is a pretty unique mural…yeah, I don’t really get it.
