So I was all ready to write about what a tease this plaque was because it only said “This Site possesses national significance in commemorating the history of the United States of America.” But it doesn’t say what the national significance is. So as I’m closely examining the plaque the owner of the home walks out wondering, naturally, what the hell I am doing. So I ask him if he can explain the plaque to me. He happily told me that the first minister of education lived in this house from around the 1860s in the Grant Administration. I was grateful to learn this so I followed up with what I thought to be a natural question “But yeah, what was the guy’s name?” The owner calmly replies, “Zalmon Richards”. Ah that makes sense. And there is the confirmation that, I am indeed, a jackass.

For the expats abroad. It’s starting to get some serious foundation. It seems like the two cranes have been working nonstop. But what I am more excited about is what it will bring to us. Check out the Mocha Hut below. This is from the U Street location. We are going to have a similar set up very soon. I dare say it is going to be dope sky.

Make sure to visit Katy Chang. From the listserv:

From a reader:
I wondered if you wouldn’t mind posting about a bike sale event on Saturday to benefit local community bike shops and organizations and a local community garden.  I’m a volunteer at a small local bike shop called Phoenix Bikes.  We focus on youth mentorship programs and providing inexpensive and reliable transportation to local folks.  The whole place works on donated bikes and donated time.  Anyway, the event on Saturday is at 7th St Garden from 10am-4pm.

Anyway!  Here’s the pitch for the event:

Used Bike Sale – December 15th
Get the season’s best deals and support community-based, eco-initiatives. Road, Single Speed, Mountain, Cruiser, and Kids bikes will all be ready to ride home through the snow. The sale benefits Phoenix Community Bike Shop ( http://www.phoenixbikes.org/), Mount Rainier Bike CoOp (http://www.tfkmetrodc.org/mrbc.htm), Bikes for the World ( http://www.bikesfortheworld.org/) and the 7th Street Garden (http://the7thstreetgarden.squarespace.com/) – a great chance to grab a bike and get hip to great organizations in and around the District.

Do we still have people who carve doors as a vocation? I feel like this may be a lost art.

The last one was a great success so I have spoken with the good folks at Red Derby who have agreed to host the next PoP Happy Hour. They have been kind enough to offer $1 off rail and wine for the event. Of course they will have their spectacular selection of canned beers as always. So the question is: Do you prefer Tuesday Jan. 16th or Wednesday Jan. 17th?

This building is beautiful. Located at 1326 Girard Street prices for two bedroom two bathrooms are $749,000 and a one bedroom two bathroom is going for $629,000. I’m just judging it from the outside. But tell, me can this possible sell for this price? Check out the detail up top after the jump. (more…)

Have you ever seen a news program or clip on obesity?  You know how they show a montage of really fat bellies or asses walking down the street.  Could you imagine watching tv at home and recognizing your ass on tv for a program about obesity?  That would be horrible.
