“My DC photo cache is undoubtedly small, as I’ve only lived here a short time. However, it is with great pride that I send to you a picture of a DC location very near and dear to my heart: Capitol City Brewing Company.

Just one month after moving from Maine to DC, I chanced upon a CCBC and within a week I was making daily pilgrimages to quench my thirst and knowledge of beer.

Indeed, I am a beer lover but not an alcoholic. Yes, I do have other hobbies other than beer – it just happens to be my day job is all. I am a brewer at CCBC. I get to play with the kettle, mash tun, and the finest ingredients on earth: malt, hops, yeast, and 100% pure, unpasteurized DC water. The best part of my day is standing in the brew house with the malty aroma of the mash clearing my nasal passages and pores. In fact, the attached picture is a James’-eye-view of the brew system right before I take my daily morning dip in the 150 degree malty water.

This DC location holds a commodity more valuable than the National Treasury’s papers. What did the colonists drink when their dirty water gave them tapeworms? beer. What did our founding fathers drink while drafting the Constitution? beer. And what brewery proudly wears its DC name on its sleeve? Capitol City Brewing Company.

I rest my case and go to sleep dreaming of Jeff Tweedy.”

Thanks to all who alerted me to the wild graffiti (or do I just call it art?) all around the vacant building at 14th and T. When I walked by I found out that there was a whole list of Performance Week Activities inside inside sponsored by Meat Market Gallery. On Saturday I stumbled upon a screening of “Recognition” by Kathryn Cornelius. It was amazing. I’m not really a super sophisticated performance art connoisseur but even I could appreciate this. Additionally, inside the walls were covered in amazing graffiti/art. I’m not quite sure where the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme came from but it is in full effect. I spoke with the owner of meat market gallery and hopefully he will email me about future events so I can alert you beforehand. Did anyone else catch any of the performances/lectures or go to the closing party? Check out lots more photos of the graffiti/art after the jump. (more…)

You have a heat lamp on your porch! Are you kidding me? That is awesome! I wonder how much they go for? I guess you could probably get one at Home Depot, yeah? Anyway, this is the first one I have ever seen at a private residence. And it is beautiful in all respects.

The really funny thing about this encounter was when I explained to her that I run a neighborhood blog she got very excited and asked if I’d thought about endorsing a candidate. Well, Clinton nor Obama nor Edwards will return my phone calls so I’m not yet ready to make an endorsement.

But seriously it would be nice if we heard some of the candidates talk about solutions for problems in our urban areas. I’m not saying they should talk about it as much as the economy or Iraq or, er, Ethanol…but as an urban dweller I appreciate a little pandering, I’m just saying…

Now, this is going to be one well lit porch. I actually made the same mistake in my bathroom I got lights put in above the mirror and on the ceiling. It is ridiculously bright if you turn both on. But I think these porch lights actually look really good.

Speaking of porch lights it really bothers me when people don’t turn on the porch lights. I have a neighbor that has one that turns on automatically whenever anyone walks by and that is the bomb. But, if you don’t have one of those, doesn’t it bother you when people don’t turn on their porch lights? It is a simple move that makes the street feel a whole lot safer when everyone has them on…
